Yes my bee guy told me about that. Re: [MBZ] OT Plan Bee
In the last few years (since the drought ended) the bees swarmed at least a half dozen times. As I understand it, the old queen leads the swarm as a new queen is "born" to lead the old hive. Local beekeepers came and got a couple of the swarms before they "got away" but most of the swarms apparently have new homes somewhere in the wild. I have about 45 forested acres and there are several other large "tree farms" nearby. > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Max > Dillon via Mercedes > Sent: Saturday, June 15, 2019 6:55 PM > To: Mercedes Discussion List > Cc: Max Dillon > Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT Plan Bee > > That's a great story Scott! Re: [MBZ] OT Plan Bee
I tried to get rid of my bees at first. Gad several bee-keepers come to get them. They removed a bunch each time but never got them all. I decided to try to kill the ones remaining. I killed a bunch but many still remained. Finally I decided to co-exist. They are right over our bedroom (I can hear them buzz) but I sealed that room pretty well when I painted it and they don't seem to get in. A few do get into the upstairs storeroom through cracks between the 1854 floorboards but that's manageable. Given the problems bees have had lately I'm glad some have a safe place. > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of > Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > Sent: Saturday, June 15, 2019 3:14 PM > To: Mercedes Discussion List > Cc: Buggered Benzmail > Subject: [MBZ] OT Plan Bee > > After my neighbor got sorted out on his anaphylactic reaction to the bee > sting the other day he’s back and working on the hive. [MBZ] OT Plan Bee
After my neighbor got sorted out on his anaphylactic reaction to the bee sting the other day he’s back and working on the hive. He pulled out a coupla combs (11 visible)and could see and feel a lot more way up in there. He has determined it goes up into the rafters a lot, the honey is up in there. He thinks it’s huge maybe 10-15 lb or more (most he sees are like 2-3lb), the queen is up in there. Maybe I will get some honey out of it! He’s trying to figure out how to get it dealt with, we might have to start pulling off the beadboard panel on the bottom of the rafters or cutting into stuff to get at it. H. The bees are really upset now. He’s been using a shop vac setup to suck them out but they keep boiling out from up in there. He’s got a goodly amount sucked into a bucket now. Trying to get more. Might need to get his buddy over to help. I’m sitting here on the porch watching not too far away, they are pretty much ignoring me which is good. He figures they have been up in there a long time. Funny as I never noticed them until a few weeks ago. They are amazing though. --FT Sent from iPhone ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
