Guy I worked with back in the early 80s grew up in South Bend, and as a young man worked for Studebaker. Unfortunately (for him) he got his job about a year before they went under. He described the conditions in the plant as people started to figure out the place was going down the tubes as "comical". He said they often left their lunch leftovers in door panels, and on one of the last days, one of his co-workers relieved his bowels into the door panel of a car. Guess the dealer that got that car was happy Dan On Nov 1, 2013, at 5:55 PM, Gerry Archer wrote: > BIL was a Studebaker fan. True, the Studebakers were good cars. Dad bought a pickup truck when the local dealer went out of business, we drove it to about 200k miles, then sold it to a collector. I don't remember why they died (the brand). And it did not help that they were junk. My recollection is that the engines wore out very quickly. I also think I recall that it was a big car introduced at a time when the public was buying smaller cars. I see one around here that is unique and I assume somone has grafted the front clip onto another vehicle as I don't believe they ever made an Edsel version of the Ranchero.
