It's not as secure, but you can have each browser remember the login for a
given account so you don't have to login to each every time. I have over 16
different browsers (all free) in one tab that I use for testing web apps.
Each could go directly to the inbox of its own mail account.

Yup - but I jsut set Gmail as one of the "home" tabs in a browser, and set
it to stay logged on - open the browser, and there it is - open another
browser, there's the other account's mail. Lazy, but it works.

And if you use a non-default From: address it sends "on behalf of " in the header. That's why I have two accounts instead of just
one. I think they may now allow any "send from" address but originally
that was not working for me.

Rich is maybe using the wrong settings for authentication, or else is

One more thing - I have multiple gmail accounts setup under the iPad mail
app. One of them periodically fails sending and retrieving mail. Its a
known Gmail bug. You can download the free Gmail app and use it for the
problematic account if you need to.

If you have multiple accounts set up, you can tap the "From" field and
select which account sends the mail. The first tap will open up the CC and
BCC fields, then you tap the "From" field again and you are presented with
a list of accounts to choose from.

I used the same settings I have on my laptop and desktop machines, I
have sent emails using another account and they worked fine. It is kinda
funny, using the gmail smtp server for outbound mail on one account
makes it show up as my gmail account even though I am sending it from
another account/email addy.

Just like a "real" computer, the send (SMTP) is a whole
different protocol than receive (POP3 or IMAP). Both have to be
set up, and often use a different server. Like "mail.domain.com"
for receive and "smtp.domain.com" for send.

For example, to send using a Gmail account, under the section
