Why is that? What all is different between the early and later ones?

The OM602 2.5 diesel and the M103 2.6 gasoline engines are longer than
the space in the '84-'85 chassis have room for!! The 86 chassis (at
least some of them - not sure that any/all of the 4 cylinder chassis
were changed) were redesigned to allow the 5 and 6 cylinder engines to fit.

Perhaps that's why it's 95% complete and needs a radiator shroud.
Not to mention why he's selling his project after taking it this far.

BTW, I was looking at the 16v, and it appears I can stick a 3 thick
intercooler between the condensor and the grill. The horns and steering
fluid cooler would have to be relocated. Can't do that with a W116 chassis.
I think, but don't know for sure, that the 2.5 will fit behind the radiator
in its current position.

Mitch.

Go for it, Bob! It should be quite fun and reasonably peppy with the manny
behind it. For $1000, you could probably afford to sort the stuff out
that's wrong due to the engine swap and fix the ACC too.
