The OM602 2.5 diesel and the M103 2.6 gasoline engines are longer than the space in the '84-'85 chassis have room for!! The 86 chassis (at least some of them - not sure that any/all of the 4 cylinder chassis were changed) were redesigned to allow the 5 and 6 cylinder engines to fit. Not to mention why he's selling his project after taking it this far. BTW, I was looking at the 16v, and it appears I can stick a 3 thick intercooler between the condensor and the grill. The horns and steering fluid cooler would have to be relocated. Can't do that with a W116 chassis. I think, but don't know for sure, that the 2.5 will fit behind the radiator in its current position.
