MEK was essentially outlawed in the 80s. MEKP is as close as you can
get now, AFIK. It works to make bonds in acrylic plastic sheet.

If you have access to chem stores at a major research U, you might be
able to get some. However the one I used to get stuff from changed
policy. there are no cash sales. Stuff only can be purchased on a U
account, and those are heavily audited. Even glass/plastic wares.

I haven't been able to get real MEK. I had a Por15 tank seal gone
wrong which can supposedly be dissolved with MEK. It can't be
dissolved with "MEK substitute"...

Here is the official spermatex blurb:

The product can be removed from metal surfaces with isopropyl alcohol.
If the sealant has been dried for a long time or at high temperatures,
cover the sealant with alcohol and allow to soften overnight.

The problem is both acetone and alcohol evaporate quickly. How do you
soak it overnight unless you have a couple hundred gallons in a tub you
can dunk the whole engine in? Or spend a day dripping more alcohol onto
a rag covering the $ hit?
