Believe it or not, they can be helpful in the winter. I wish my SL had them.

It has a rear sun shade that's not working - no biggie, easy fix. It also
 has heated seats.

European delivery. His wife just bought a Maserati convertible for a
 fun car. Go figure.

Anyway, car has 154k on it, second owner (not first as he said in the ad),
a CPO car when he bought it in Alexandria, VA from the MB dealer there.
3000 mile oil changes, all service done by the dealer with documentation,
good mechanicals, pretty decent cosmetics, everything works.

The car was amazingly peppy for a six in a W140 chassis, as we took it out
on the interstate and I really put my foot into it. Certainly not the
neck-snapping response you get from the M119, but still pretty good
considering the significantly smaller engine with the same amount of iron
behind it and the AC running full blast.

It's got some sort of 3M clear film on the nose and hood that was installed
by the VA dealer to prevent rock chips. Hmm. Looks like it can come off
easily, and since it's clear there doesn't seem to be any effect on the
paint color (black). Both front and rear bumpers are faded, and the top
portions of the front bumper are starting to fail paint-wise, which is not
surprising and something commonly seen on these cars, especially down here.
Engine compartment was clean and everything was intact and in place.
Looks like it might need motor mounts, but there wasn't a noticeable amount
of vibration in the passenger compartment. They just looked collapsed.

Bottom of the car and wheel wells were clean with no signs of rust. Some
minor surface rust on some of the front suspension components, but nothing
of significance. Good tires (It's always had Michelins!) but dirty
wheels. Lots of brake pad present. Trunk is clean and all the things you
would expect are in it, including an MB cover for the car. No signs of
water or other nastiness. 1.5 year old MB battery.

Interior leather had some overall wear but no rips, tears or breakdown,
especially on the driver's side bolster. All the interior bits work,
including sunroof, seats and instrumentation. Original Becker with trunk
mounted CD changer. AC worked and showed no error codes in diagnostics,
and was ICE COLD during our drive with an ambient of about 85F. Carpets
are clean and pretty much unworn. Headliner is clean and intact.

 Negatives:

Driver's side rear door has ding in front of door handle where someone
nailed them in a parking lot with a car door or something. Not something
the paintless dent guys could fix, I think, but I'm not sure. Paint isn't
 broken, which is good.

As mentioned previously, both front and rear bumpers need repaint. Side
lower trim panels look a little flat as well, but that may be me. It's
possible a hard core Martha session could bring them back.

All in all, a definitely contender for addition to the fleet.

He's been asking $4500 or best offer and has had no takers, for that
matter, no one else has looked at the car. It's a $3500 car in this
market, which I may offer him once I see the other car in Orlando later
today if my plans work out. He and the wife are leaving on one of those
European river cruises this Wednesday and will be gone for a couple of
weeks, so if I can't work something out before that I'll have to keep
searching if I'm interested. If I do follow through, I'm thinking having
$3500 cash in hand before popping off to Europe might be some incentive,
but it's clear this guy has a LOT of money, so that might not be a big
 motivation.

 We'll see.
