If the Beckers are poor, then Honda and Ford (which actually has a Blaupunkt installed) are even worse. Funny that you say this, as I recall that Beckers were notoriously poor with FM reception, at least with the GPs. Maybe it was another model I'm thinking of? Re: [MBZ] Radios. was: Motor Mounts
I can send you a used Becker for cheap. The tape cassette is probably pooched but the radio should work. Re: [MBZ] Radios. was: Motor Mounts
The radio wiring in an 83 300D is pretty simple: switched power, constant power, antenna, L and R speakers. Since the front/rear balance is controlled with the dial in the center console you don't need a radio with built-in front-rear fade, and the wiring harness is not set up for that. Good luck finding one though. You could either bring wires forward from the console fader dial or just wire up the front or rear channel of the radio. I'd try to find a working Becker before I went with anything new. The Becker Grand Prix in my 300D absolutely puts the "modern" radios in our newer Ford and Honda to shame in its ability to tune in distant FM stations clearly (though I never have figured out how to set the clock, and it has an odd "alarm clock" feature, I guess for when I'm sleeping in the car) Gerry Archer writes: > The Becker in my '83 300D quit but I don't want to fix it or get another > Becker since the car is a beater with 300K miles. > Can anyone suggest an Asian radio that will pull in distant stations? [MBZ] Radios. was: Motor Mounts
The Becker in my '83 300D quit but I don't want to fix it or get another Becker since the car is a beater with 300K miles. Can anyone suggest an Asian radio that will pull in distant stations? Years ago Pioneer was the best long range radio. I'll also replace the antenna; probably with a non-retractable. Not looking forward to sorting out all the wiring.
