[MBZ] Replacing Engine Mounts 85 300SD ( Was ReplacingInjectors(was Re:1985300SD NastyEngineVibration))

2007-09-21 Thread George Larribeau
Replaced the engine mounts, engine shocks and transmission mount.
The right mount was a bit cracked upon close inspection. The left mount was
way past dead. It collapsed with 'full metal contact. I did not notice how
bad it's appearance was until I got it out. The pesky tin 'shield' hides it.
I has a dickens of a time getting the left mount out. Was unable to get
access to the inboard mount to chassis screw. Wound up removing the mount
arm off of the side of the engine.
Replaced the engine shocks, the old ones were most likely OK but the mount
kits did need replacement. The transmission mount looked OK but since I had
the new one in hand ...
Of course in the middle of all this my floor jack died. Think I got it about
15-20 years ago at Sears. Bought a Chinese copy of my Taiwan made sears
Jack. (weird) It is OK but I will need to evaluate it further. The new jack
is difficult to regulate on going down slow ...Maybe I'll make an injector
test stand from the old jack's pump ...ha ha.

Now it is nice and smooth. (and quite), hard for me to get use to bad engine
mounts making some thing run like it wants to blow up. It was so loud
pedestrians were frightened of it.

The front mounts are questionable and the engine shocks don't look happy. I
will order new ones tomorrow.

George,
Geez, they 27 years old! It's time. Mine caused significant vibration -
besides, they're relatively cheap/
Rusty has some for ~$10 each!!

When I open the hood it doesn't appear to be visibly vibrating all that

Motor and tranny mounts OK? Seems like if it were shaking the car, the
motor mounts (if good) would be flexing quite a bit.

Amazing how much quieter they are when they're not doing
the pee-pee dance on the frame rails!

Utterly transformed the Frankenheap (115 200D).
