If the trans is in limp mode you can still drive it, just not much beyond 40 at 5k rpm or so. I was wondering if the transmission had gone stupid, but then realized that wouldn't have prevented them from putting the runs and drives label on it. (starts with jump pack, idles, goes forward in D, goes backward in R) My ML350 was "runs and drives" but had a busted radiator so wouldn't run forever. I looked at a ML500 a couple of years ago that runs and drives, but it had been rear ended in the driver's back suspension, and the wheel was about 15 degrees off from straight ahead. No driving that heap home or towing it on a dolly. I haven't done any inspections in a COVID world, but in 2019 I had to sign in at the counter with my bidder number and they'd give me a yellow vest. Some of them may have. The Copart one is in the clear. I wonder if it's something stupid like a crank or cam position sensor? I'll call up there and see if I can inspect it. Interesting. I suppose it can still drive after being t-boned but tire alignment might be a bit off. For $1500 or so that would be a great donor for a cheepcheep car with a bad 350, the tires and wheels and all look ok too. You could probably do well with it.
