The hook is that the variant of the 722 transmission that works with the 4Matic transfer case is unique to that drive train. You can’t just slap a regular 2WD 722 and have it work - the output shaft of the transmission is totally different as it’s been explained to me. Since the seller doesn’t know what I would offer, if the people going to see it tonight don’t know what they’re looking at or lowball them, I suspect I’ll be hearing back. The wheels are worth probably $400-$500 if they’re not dinged up, and they don’t appear to be from the few pictures there are. I can think of a number of other goodies I would strip off the car for my W210s and then I would just scrap it. Too bad, as the engine is good in it, too. Doubt it. Based on my knowledge of the 722.6/9 it’s probably the center shaft, which has a bearing that can fail and allow the shaft to rattle around inside, doing a pretty significant amount of damage. I’ve got a buddy on the west coast who knows these boxes inside and out, so I’ve asked him what he thinks. I’ll report back what he says. The 4Matic version of the 722.6 is unique in the output shaft area. It looks better than the E$500 dizzel. The wheels are nicer than the sorta spoked ones on the dizzel. Get it for $500, fix or replace tranny, flip it.
