Re: [MBZ] Swing axles
...a horizontal compensating spring was fitted between the rear axle and the right axle shaft to keep the car more stable under various driving conditions. So I guess it was a necessary improvement, but I don't understand how the spring contributes to stability It reduces the tendency to jack up in cornering like a swing axle VW or Triumph Spitfire, thereby puting the rear tires on their outer edges reducing traction. I installed a Camber Compensator on my VW KG long ago. And I think I may have installed on on my Porsche 356B. The handling of those old Benzs was not all that good. RLE ** One site has it all. [MBZ] Swing axles?
Thats cause it wasn't, same engine pretty much and the same old swing axel rear end as the VW. Handled like a go cart though The last Porsche model to use swing axles was the 356C of 1965. RLE

I seem to remember that the Type 3s also had CV axles, ditto for the 412 VWs. Only the Beetle and early buses had swing axles. Benz used a swing axle rear end from 1953 to 1973. Peter

Re: [MBZ] Swing axles?
will the MB spin if you lift the throttle in a turn? i've been driving them for years, but have never lifted off the throttle in a turn for fear of spinning the thing I did spin the 6.3 once, but that had more to do with taking a left at 70 mph in the rain than with anything else.
