G: If the name was changed to something like "Off Topic" and the same restrictions current on the Mercedes list were applied, then more submissions would be posted there. Several people have said that the profanity and other objectionable content was the reason they did read that list. Re: [MBZ] TOT (totally off topic) Amazing tidal power project in Scotland
This would be a good solution in conjunction with a pumped storage hydro plant like Northfield Mountain here in MA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northfield_Mountainuse your regularly occurring power to charge your standby plant. I wonder if you could use something like that to run a desalination plant somewhere? Its sure set to make a crapload of power. -Curt From: Mitch Haley via Mercedes To: Mercedes Discussion List Sent: Tuesday, January 6, 2015 10:19 AM Subject: Re: [MBZ] TOT (totally off topic) Amazing tidal power project in Scotland Interesting graphic. Looks like it might supply near peak power for 1-2 hours, twice a day, and maybe usable power for 6-8 hours twice a day? I wonder what that does to the grid when the times of production are ever changing, but at least it's predictable, should be even more predictable than solar, so you should be able to ramp up/down a coal or NG plant to balance it. Wind and wave power aren't so predictable. There's no way you can pick up a calendar and say 'peak wind power will be at 3pm on August 15th', but you should be able to make plans like that with tidal power. 400MW sounds like a lot, but I figure it's roughly 10A per household. What is that, one blow drier and a tea kettle per? I guess I could add a few swear words or political statements and put it on banned... Interesting graphic. Looks like it might supply near peak power for 1-2 hours, twice a day, and maybe usable power for 6-8 hours twice a day? [MBZ] TOT (totally off topic) Amazing tidal power project in Scotland
The MeyGen tidal project in Scotland will be the largest tidal power plant in the world once operational. Atlantis, the Australian company that is building it has just received the green light from the government and construction should begin this month. The tidal project will be located in an area that lies in the channel (“Inner Sound”) between the island of Stroma and the north easterly tip of the Scottish mainland, encompassing almost 3.5 square-km of fast flowing water. When MeyGen is fully operational, it should have 269 turbines that produce 398MW of clean energy, generating enough electricity to power 175,000 Scottish homes. http://www.treehugger.com/renewable-energy/worlds-largest-tidal-energy-power-plant-269-turbines-begin-construction-scotland.html#ixzz3O3RRoFZE http://www.care2.com/causes/worlds-largest-tidal-energy-power-plant-to-begin-construction-in-scotland.html ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post.
