The late 90s/early 2000s Buicks are rather solid cars with a minimal amount of bing and distractions. Mother in law has one that’s probably an early 2000s Regal, I think, and it’s dead nuts reliable and very solid. You’ll fall asleep driving and looking at it, but for someone like her it’s the perfect car. It’s got that million mile V6 Buick/GM made in it. -D > On Jun 16, 2019, at 1:58 PM, Peter Frederick via Mercedes > wrote: > > My Aunt had a Toyota Avalon she was fond of, and I drove it once. I have taken a few of those newer soul-less rattle box cars out for a spin. They are nothing like the 35 year old SD in build quality, handling, or cabin noise. I would go nuts having to put up with the rattles, hums, squeaks, and blatant low quality plastic interior, alongside the video game cluster and blinking light knobs and controls. They might be safe, but are crap boxes that should be far more efficient. I must be spoiled from owning bottom feeder Benz cars. clay > On Jun 15, 2019, at 7:15 PM, Curt Raymond via Mercedes > wrote: > > Weight.Your '78 Celica was a little tin can with seats, it weighed nothing > and if you got in an accident with something bigger than it you died.Today's > cars are considerably more substantial, they've got bracing in the doors and > a safety frame that will stay together and protect you in an accident. For a > good comparison go back and find the old Fifthgear video where they crash a > '90's Volvo, a car that I thought seemed pretty safe. Weight.Your '78 Celica was a little tin can with seats, it weighed nothing and if you got in an accident with something bigger than it you died.Today's cars are considerably more substantial, they've got bracing in the doors and a safety frame that will stay together and protect you in an accident. For a good comparison go back and find the old Fifthgear video where they crash a '90's Volvo, a car that I thought seemed pretty safe. Cars today are way safer than even just 20 years ago, they emit less pollution and will last 200,000 miles with minimal maintenance. While we're on the subject I see that New England has recently switched to summer fuel and the mileage on my '15 VW Jetta TDI is creeping up, I've got around 10,000 miles on it now with the average economy out of the computer reading right around 51 mpg. I quit checking it after the first couple tanks, the computer was accurate to a percent or so. I should probably check again now that we're into summer fuel. I've been in the 600 mile per tank range and I think with some careful driving 700 is achievable on a long trip. It seems like 65mph is the sweet spot, thats 6th gear, about 1700 rpm, the engine is just in the sweet spot and will pull any of the hills we've got around here. Overall I'm well pleased with the car. It'll take a long time to pay for itself but we're still under 100,000 miles so I'm planning to keep it a long while. -Curt On Friday, June 14, 2019, 8:02:29 AM EDT, Meade Dillon via Mercedes wrote: Speaking of fuel consumption, on SWMBO's '96 Infiniti I30 (five speed manual trans) we just took a trip up to Norfolk and back, and got some of the best mileage ever in that car. Speaking of fuel consumption, on SWMBO's '96 Infiniti I30 (five speed manual trans) we just took a trip up to Norfolk and back, and got some of the best mileage ever in that car. Trip up on interstates at 70-80 mph, 27 mpg. Trip back was on two-lane and lower speed limit roads (we took the coastal route - more on that later) and achieved our all-time record high 30 mpg. The only thing which has changed recently is one of the six fuel injectors died and was replaced, and I just changed all the spark plugs. I now suspect that the old fuel injector was going bad for some time and dragging the mileage down. - Max Charleston SC On Thu, Jun 13, 2019 at 8:49 PM Dwight Giles via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Yes ditto. Is it at all easy to get 28mpg in a non turbo 300CD? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-mercedes-benz-300cd-6/ Mitch. My 1976 115 300D won't do it. I get a bit over 20 mpg in town and close to 30 mpg on the highway. That is calculated using imperial gallons. I don't think I have ever topped 30 mpg but I might be able to if I drove it slower. This would be a trip to the lake and back which is a mixture of 4 lane and 2 lane, some of it pretty flat and some of it hills etc. My 2013 F150 with the 5 litre coyote engine will do 21 or so mpg on the same trip. The onboard computer says a bit better but I usually end up putting more fuel in than the computer says I used. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Not interested. Wrong colour of red, rusty, non-turbo etc. I will stick with my 115. If I were to swap, I would want a 300SD but they are becoming out of reach in price or else worn out so it is not likely to ever happen unless I win a big lottery and can afford to throw whatever money is required at it in order to get a really nice one. You folks down south are free to bid on cars out of Canada. We are not a 3rd world country. You can actually fly in and drive them home. There are roads that go to the US border all over the country. And, right now, the exchange rate is very favourable to you. On 12/06/2019 7:47 PM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes wrote: How much is Randy going to bid on it?
