Re: [MBZ] Totally OT poll -- just for my own curiousity
Her father was well educated and worked here in seattle for years. Mrs Obama graduated from High School here, then went to HI to get knocked up. There she found a love for dark meat, having not had or seen it before clay On 15 Jul 2008, at 07:01, Mitch Haley wrote: > Rich Thomas wrote: >> (1) He *should* be a muslim per his "father's" choice of religion, > > Why put "father's" in quotation marks? Well, as far as Barry Jr knowing Barry Sr, you have a point, they had little to no contact after Jr was two years old, so Jr can't remember squat about that relationship. OTOH, Jr's parents were married and living together when he was born. Re: [MBZ] Totally OT poll -- just for my own curiousity
I don't think BHO Sr was a "father" in the proper sense of the word, he was more of a "babadadduh." Not that BHO Jr has any responsibility in that regard, it was his "mother's" responsibility (or lack thereof), but I am sure it has had a significant effect on him. The way he has bounced around, it is probably hard for him to feel a part of much of anything. I don't put much into that early schooling business, I can barely remember what school I went to when I was 6 or 8 yr old, and what if anything I was taught. An article in the NYTimes quoted his (half) sister (of the Indonesian "father") as saying he took on the black identity at some point in high school in Hawaii (where he was the only, or one of the very few, kid who was darker than the others), sort of a self-identification, which she had no particular feelings about one way or the other as it was his right to be who he wanted to be. Then I think after college/law school (and probably during), in Chicago, that (and that church aspect) became an expedient element of his political aspirations. It is interesting to note too that his mother was white, his father was 1/4 black African and 3/4 Arab (he had one black grandmother I think), making BHO Jr 1/8 black African. I guess if he wants to be "black" that is his right -- I want to be a 24 yr old buffed stud with a, well, I won't go there, and I suppose if enough people believe I am then I can believe that I am and present myself as such. I do admire his tenacity and trajectory, it shows a lot of dedication and intelligence and hard work to get as far as he (or anyone in a similar position) has. I just don't think any of it really particularly qualifies him to be president, and I find his political leanings far from mine. --R Mitch Haley wrote: > Rich Thomas wrote: > >> (1) He *should* be a muslim per his "father's" choice of religion, >> > > Why put "father's" in quotation marks? It's my understanding that he went to a muslim public school (AKA terrorist training camp) in Indonesia for a while, then his mama stuck him in a catholic school. When he was ten, he was shipped off to a private (non church) school in Hawaii, according to what's currently on Wiki. That whole thing about living in Hawaii with maternal grandparents seems way off, didn't they always live in Iowa? My favorite "father" story about Barack Jr: When he won the NC primary, his victory speech included a line about upholding the principles behind the flag on his father's coffin. So apparently he's working for Kenya while drawing a paycheck from the USA government.
