If it's anything like the one on my '87, the original "pin" was one
piece too, it's just broken.  I had no trouble grabbing the broken pin
with a pair of needle-nose pliers, but yours may have less clearance;
I would think a large pair of tweezers, forceps, or some similar tool
would work.
