The long holding yards are being run out of business. Scrap is far more
valuable than the yard space.I have one yard that seems to be holding onto
very old metal. They have stacks of honda bodies and a few lanes of other
bodies that stay there for months on end. Most yards have a five to six week
flow and the stock is very depleted by then. Before the local yards were taken
over by the steel company, there would be a crushing day when all the old stuff
got crunched. Now they have processing on site and send out rows at a time.
And they remove all the goodies before it hits the yard. So you end up finding
all the books and personal belongings on sale in the store.

in the old days, a junkyard would just keep what they had. i remember the
old allen junkyard north of atlanta and how if you went back far enough,
the ford model As would start showing up. the place was sold to the you
pull it outfit and now all that stuff is gone
today it seems as if no one wants to deal in anything other than fast
moving items
