They will not sell enough evs to hit the co2 target for the fleet, so they
will have to keep the diesels for awhile. But they are making a serious ev
push.

Jake Fisher of*Consumer Reports is hardly someone to be taken as an authority,
in light of the toada/CR scandals. He is a shill paid by toada.

[MBZ] VW heading toward EVs

2018-04-25 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
Tarnished by scandal, VW looks to electric carsPublished: Wednesday, April
25, 2018

Three years after news broke of Volkswagen's emissions cheating scandal
known as "dieselgate," the automaker is looking to rebrand.

VW plans to ramp up its supply of electric vehicles and largely turn away
from diesel. And the company recently announced Herbert Diess would take
over as CEO.

"Electrification is going to be the powertrain of the future," said
Matthias Erb, the automaker's chief engineering officer in North America.

In addition to a stream of apologies, VW has paid more than $20 billion in
fines and court settlements. In Europe, the investigation is ongoing.

VW didn't seem very interested in EVs prior to the diesel scandal,
according to Jake Fisher of *Consumer Reports*. Others note that most major
automakers are moving toward EVs (Sonari Glinton, NPR
,
April 24). *— KB*
