You'll spend less time welding this back together than you'd spend even
finding a replacement. And it's 'free' once you have the tools.

Yup, my welding improved substantially the year I kept piecing the '84 190D
exhaust back together. I kept fixing it and it kept breaking. Eventually it was
more repair than original pipe...

This kind of repair is one of the very easiest to do when welding,

ugly the weld is, and the metal is relatively heavy.

Go for it!

Yeah that's probably the easiest thing. It does look rusted where it broke, but
overall it's solid. I can weld a bit of replacement from some scrap I have
around if necessary.

[MBZ] W116 diesel exhaust bracket

2022-08-16 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Tracked down my rattling exhaust issue on the 300SD today. The bracket that
holds the front of the exhaust is broken. I see this kit is available, which
includes some of the bits but does not show the bracket itself (the bracket
bolts to the transmission housing).

Doesn't look like it would be terribly difficult to fabricate something out of
some steel stock, or possibly do a weld repair on the existing bracket, but
anyone know if the bracket is availalble as a replacement part?
