Re: [MBZ] WOW! Gas mileage
Caribou, from Bangor you get on 95 and drive north for about 2 hours until 95 turns to go into Canada. Then you get on rt 1 and drive north for an hour. I was there 3 weeks ago, the week before you were around elsewise I would have arranged for a meetup. -Curt Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2007 07:59:14 -0500 From: Kaleb C. Alot of people think slowing down is bunk but in most cases it really does save fuel. On my commute I figure I save $6-$7 a week. Might not seem like much but thats ~$312 a year. Plus if I drive slower I find that I don't get there alot later than I would have (couple minutes maybe on my 55 mile commute) and I feel more refreshed and less stressed when I do arrive. -Curt -- Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] WOW! Gas mileage
I didnt go that far north. Basically I was in Bangor, the family lives up in Lagrage/Milo area. Drove down to Bar Harbor, then down the coast to Belfast, then on down to Portland and then back up 95 back to Bangor. [MBZ] WOW! Gas mileage
I had to drive about three hours for a hearing this morning. I left at 6:30 am and drove on a nice flat straight four lane highway. I left a little earlier than I needed to, so I set the cruise at 70 mph. I did not need the air conditioning on. It was a beautiful drive. I filled up right before I left and reset the trip odometer. When I got back to town, I stopped and filled up. I had driven 323 miles and I put 13.5 gallons of premium in. I thought to myself that sounds like pretty good mileage for my car. If you do the calculation that is 24 mpg (23.92). I have never gotten that in my LWB 126. I guess driving at 70 (with the cruise on) the a/c off for half of the trip and driving 100% on the highway really will improve your mileage. Also, this is Kansas, so its also quite flat. I usually get about 20 mpg if I don't drive 80. I doubt I will be able to duplicate it again. Donald H. Snook 1990 300SEL 137K
Re: [MBZ] WOW! Gas mileage
I have made a number of local all-highway trips running at 55 mph as opposed to the 70 mph that is the posted limit. I keep my mileage and records religiously, and in comparison with driving at the speed limit, I gain about 2-3 mpg by driving 55 mph.
