Re: [MBZ] appliance comments
There was a lot of appliance related traffic on here a few months ago, and I think the general opinion was that most stuff bought now would not last like that old Maytag of yours. We ended up getting rid of a perfectly functioning 25 YO refrigerator that we didn't need a few years ago. The new one we got last year has needed two service calls, and the washer/dryer we bought three years ago has had three service calls. I don't trust either of them. We dry on racks when time and conditions allow. So how's that worse than venting the dryer inside? With my Fisher and Paykel, I had picked that out as our next washer, to replace the 40yo Kenmore. (Well over 30, anyway.) So my wife bought the cheapie Maytag at Costco. I swear it makes more distressed noises than the one it replaced. It has a few plusses: a metal lid and a mechanical timer. Just like the one it replaced. Feels a lot cheaper, though. No way it'll last 40 years. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I'd recommend buying the service plans when buying new appliances. No they are not built as well as they used to be. Just remember that service plans are essentially insurance: a bet between you and the plan provider that the appliance will or will not need major work during the term of the plan. Guess who has the statistics on their side? Also be very careful to read the fine print, often the most common things that will need service are called normal wear items and are not covered (gaskets, seals, etc). I' thinking a good bit of the profit these days is in those contracts, though if mine are any indication they aer costing the company quite a bit also.
