Re: [MBZ] can I run OM617 without balancer

So... how do I know if the balancer is really a problem? The one that I have (but is not installed) *looks* undamaged to my untrained eye. Maybe the only problem is that the bolt came loose (but if so, why?). It keeps the crank seal ring and timing chain sprocket from walking on the crank. I'd advise against it... Re: [MBZ] can I run OM617 without balancer
I don't think that will bother. It will probably loose oil out the front. Asked this earlier but didn't get (or missed) any answer. I want to try firing up the engine in the 300SD to see how it runs, any problem doing this for a short time without the balancer in place? No belts = no water so I would not let it run for more than 10 - 15 seconds or so. Re: [MBZ] can I run OM617 without balancer
I haven't tried that, but I'd wonder if the balancer provides the inner surface for the front crank seal? If not, I'd fill it with water even though the pump won't be turning, and try it.
