thats why you always check the compresson of the engine on the ground
before you even go to install it.

Because he thinks a used head will crack if bought separately, but not
if he buys it uninspected and still on the engine. I think he should
just get a used head, casting #17 thru #22. Certainly he should not

[BillR] Let me add a second to that. I made the serious mistake of
believing a guy about his cheap used engine. $600 for engine and shipping
[which I got back], $800 to transfer my good stuff to his 'complete'
stripped engine, $960 to install and it would not even start [100lbs
compression]. $1400 for another 'fully checked out 365 lbs compression'
engine, $960 to install. 2 cracked rings. Replacement engine [#'s 2 3
from Potomac German] should be finished today [$500 to install, my mechanic
gave me half off on one, and I should now have two engines to cannibalize
and sell]. About $4500 total for a 'cheap' way to go. My advice, start
with the best engine you can find and afford. It is the cheapest way to go.
