I would replace the compressor, dryer, and expansion valve in addition
to having the system flushed.

Subject: [MBZ] off topic on MERCEDES topic
Folks,
This is bit off topic compared to the recent posts about anything but
Benzes. This one IS mercedes related.
Anyway, 1982 300TD, last summer the R4 A/C compressor rattled for a
month or two then finally seized. Now it's hot enough to repair. I
plan on replacing compressor with a new unit, receiver drier and
refilling with fresh R12. What else do i need to do?? Do i need to
flush the system (and how)? I read mixed opinions on flushinh.
Should i replace the expansion valve due to danger of plugging?
Have any of you been in the same boat and what did you do and what
were the results. How many years later were things good?
The climate control system performed admirable before the compressor
crash.
