Yes it is a concern but as far as I know it can't really be checked visually. You need to remove the sealant/rubber mastic around the perch area to see if it's rusted underneath. Of course any visible rust on the inner fender in that area or peeling sealant is a warning sign. I think the usual places -- around the windshield/rear window seals, rocker areas, lower fenders, floors is where it normally starts. Anywhere that water/salt can sit or collect.
