This is a good site for info about MB things
http://et.mercedes-benz-clubs.com/mediawiki/index.php/Hauptseite/en
and as far as the M104 in 2.8 trim, it is basically a M103 with DOHC, so
should do better at higher RPM's.

That's interesting. What were the power and torque specs on that engine
compared to the bigger M104 and the 3-liter M103? A bit ironic, methinks,
if the decontented 2.8 was actually faster than the outgoing 3.0.

Actually the best is either a E320 or E420. The E420 is a hell of a
nice car (in general). That E320 with the 104 is nice too.

Ta, very much. The PO had both pumps replaced about 6 months before
she gave it to me, or at least paid for the replacement.
Starting cold, it responds normally and drives well. Runnung hot 95c
it runs well. The only problems is when it is about half warm, 40c,
or has shut off for 1/2 to 1 hours.
Peter and MAK have suggested various fixes. Thank you. I'd just like
to have a menu of things to check, rather than throwing parts at it.

Replace the Fuel accumulator .A lot of strange symptoms will be gone
including hot start stumbles.
Check for vacuum leaks as Peter as suggested.

Finally suggest Check and replace the throttle position sensor on the
front of the fuel unit.

Re: [MBZ] 260E Injection

2008-04-10 Thread Peter Frederick

Well, now. First, check the OVP, if it's out, it will run funny.
Check the idle mixture, and also (first) for vacuum leaks --we just
replaced the idle control valve hoses and the boot between the air
meter horn and the throttle body.

Squirt some brake parts cleaner over the idle control valve hoses and
the boot -- if the idle changes, replace them, and replace the
injector seals AND the o-rings on the sleeve the injector fits in --
they all are bad if any are bad. Vacuum leaks will drive you nuts on
that car, as the computer controller won't set the check engine light
when the mixture goes out of control.

If you have occasional stalling when coming to a stop and/or throttle
lag, suspect a serious vacuum leak.

The warm start problem is quite likely a leaking accumulator (will
also cause hard starts in really hot weather with the engine hot) --
you need to have the pressure checked, it should be 3 bar with the
pump on and something like 2 bar indefinitely with the pump off.

Re: [MBZ] 260E

2008-04-03 Thread RELNGSON
<>

The 260E was a cut-price version of the 300E of the period with some of the
300E's standard equipment removed. They were a bit underpowered, as I recall
about 20hp less, sharing the engine with the 190E 2.6, and any built-in engine
problems were present in both the 2.6 and 3.0.

No question that a car of this mileage would have had the undersized piston
problem repaired long ago, had it been one of the effected cars. My '89 19E 2.6
was one of them.
