Re: [MBZ] 300D high perf. air intake on E-bay for $149.00?

2006-10-03 Thread Jim Cathey

Hi; anyone have any exper. putting on one;

Why? With no air filter altogether the car will perform exactly
the same, though of course the ingested dirt will shorten its life
considerably. The turbo can more than make up for any reasonable
intake restriction, it _never_ operates at full potential. (If it
did your engine would also die quickly.) Save your money, and
your engine, most of that junk isn't that good at actually filtering
the dirt out of the air.

If you don't believe us, just remove the existing filter and go
for a drive. Use a stopwatch, and be careful and exact so you
get good measurements. Then get back to us.

Unadulterated junk -- skip it. Benz did a much better job of intake design in
the first place.

If it's the one I'm thinking of (I didn't bother to look)
it must be the warm intake air from behind the radiator
and the extra dirt ingested. ;-)
