Now you know why I like to wash a car before I consider it for purchase.
Amazing the stuff you find when you give a car a good wash.

I found some shade. It looks much better. Trouble is, you find all the new
parking lot dings.
The wind picked up when I was finished so now it’s covered in dust. Ugh.
On my W124 today I renewed all the power steering hoses, filter and fluid. I
then installed eBay high stop light on top of the fresh from Germany 🇩🇪
bracket. Cleaned the carpets, ordered floor mats, and picked at the remaining
clear coat like a scab.
The passenger read door window will not go down. When you mash the button the
regulator is working, both up and down. I suppose I’ll look in there someday.
What should I expect in there ?

Find a shady spot. Clay bar only works best when you use the lubricant
spray. Hot sun will dry that up to fast to get the best result.

Uh, no. The whole process is a function of the clay itself. It’s not something
you could “fake” with another product. If you’ve never done it, you wouldn’t
understand that it’s not a timely process, nor is it something you need to do
more than maybe once/twice a year at most.

If doing a clay treatment takes you more than an hour’s worth of time, you’re
either doing it wrong or you have a massive vehicle.

it looked better from a distance. Kinda like it was wet. It was
a dark blue car, wouldn't use black motor oil on a light colored car.
Not a real restoration method, just a way to make a 50 footer into
a 30 footer on the cheap.

Re: [MBZ] Clay bar

2008-04-14 Thread Dave H...
I am trying something on my 71 280 with the worst cracking, peeling,
oxidized paint job I have ever seen.

I am not searching for a cure only something to tide me over for about a
year until I can afford a new paint job.

I was working and working on compounding, waxing and buffing this vehicle
when after two hours of exhausting work the hood barely looked any
different. I started thinking - paint is an oil base, right? I am
experimenting with making biodiesel out there in the garage - humm
Biodiesel = vegetable oil; paint = an oil base.

I went out to the garage moistened the corner of a dish rag with waste
vegetable oil and started rubbing it into the hood of this car. I mean
after all I can't ruin it anymore than it is.

Well, that moistened corner covered the entire hood and the vehicle, while
still showing all the cracks, etc miraculously returned to the original
vehicle color. I don't know what the final outcome will be but I will let
it sit and bake in the South Carolina sun for a few days and then trying
waxing and buffing and see what happens. The paint color looks 95% better
that I already know. Maybe it will wax and polish up enough to save the
vehicle for another year or so until a paint job can be afforded.

Maybe - just every time I drive this car, until the new paint job, I will
get hungry from smelling chicken, french fires or possibly even fried eggs.
LOL
