The w124 clocks all seem to break after awhile. The clock from my 87 and
Wilton's 87 cluster are both nonfunctional. The 94 is still going strong,
and the '85 w123 is fine. Maybe 87 was a bad clock year.

Bad capacitors most likely, that would be about when the junk ones from China
entered the market.

108/109 clocks are mechanical, with an electric "winder" solenoid, so need to
be serviced occasionally as the oil goes sticky.

Re: [MBZ] Clockworks

2019-09-03 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
The later electronic clocks, such as the ones in the W123 and later, are all
dead due to the failure of the capacitors having dried out. A couple of bucks
worth of new capacitors and maybe 10-15 minutes worth of bench work with a
soldering iron and they’re as good as new.

Re: [MBZ] Clockworks

2019-09-03 Thread Clay Monroe via Mercedes
I need to get the clock for the R107 made functional. Probably will have no
impact on resale, but… well, I have never had accurate clock in the car but for
twice each day. The change out of the clock/tach has shown that these
mechanical clocks just keep on ticking, but the prastic gear fails, so no
movement of the hands.
