Looks like Dan and Chip were among the savagers. 81S123 61 Should be a 4 speed, although some of the early ones started off in 2nd unless you punched it enough to engage the kickdown switch from a dig. I’d much rather have a factory W123 limo over this. The rear interior is disgusting on this example. Good luck though, I’m sure someone out there loves it. chiplamb 1,349 Questions in no particular order: 1. “finished in Tobacco Brown from the factory” – well, Tabakbraun wasn’t available in 1981. Build history shows (as has been said) that it was Manila Beige from new. 2. “believed accurate 72k miles” – well, if it was delivered new to Canada, that’s unlikely, since it would be in KMs. Installed speedometer appears to be that from a 1979. Oil/temp gauge for 1979 read in US units for US cars so this could be original. 3. What was the “MB Pullman Corporation”? Not a factory effort. The big sectioning out of the floor is somewhat frightening from my viewpoint. Phalcon? Tralfaz? Bizarre. Observations: Bit on the rusty side. Good for city traffic (in its day). Definitely a 4-speed automatic, they start in 2nd unless manually shifted to low and held there. I’d rather have @LWB250 ‘s old factory limo… as I am sure he would. Lwb250 531 Long wheelbase W123 chassis’ cars came from Mercedes with a substantial structural member located on the floor just behind the front seats. It’s also what the jump seats were mounted on. I see nothing of the sort on this car, suggesting that under stress, the whole thing could very well “taco” in an event of criticality. I’m also greatly concerned about the poorly welded floor panels that appear to be rusted/rusting. That and the rusted rear trailing arms suggest this car has far more than the stated mileage or possibly have been stored improperly for an extended period of time. While the factory long wheelbase models were not “limousines”, the structural integrity of the chassis was such that they were very solid. Simply taking a W123 chassis and sectioning it would lead to some serious structural deficiencies, in my opinion. braq 50 So this was a regular 300D sedan, that has been cut and pieces inserted to emulate the V123 versions that were available from the factory, of course new paint was needed at that stage ;-) While the factory long versions also have no stellar record of holding up against corrosion (actually all 123 series cars are prone to it) at least the layout of the longer structure creates more confidence than this aftermarket effort. Also would like to point out that the chrome wheel arches were not part on the factory long version. It was on the 600, but never on the long versions (of the /8 and V123) ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
