A gas turbine (jet) will run on any flammable dust - coal, wood, flour, corn, beans, plastic, etc. - also. Regulating/controlling it the problem. I recall reading that he had problems with the engine exploding, so he changed to petroleum distillate. Silica containing fuels will destroy the turbine in short order, too -- same as flying into volcanic ash clouds. Something about losing the shape of the turbine blades as molten silica builds up on them. This is why garbage dump methane is such a problem -- it's always loaded with pentacyclosiloxane, the stuff that makes your hair shiny and repels water on shoes. Burns nicely and makes silicon dioxide (sand) -- nice abrasive, eh?
