Re: [MBZ] Oil filler cap gasket
Yeah, I think this came up when I had the 300D. Good gas cap, leaky valve cover filler cap. I recall ordering the seal from the dealer, it was just a couple of bucks. -D > On Jan 8, 2018, at 10:08 AM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > Dan, the peach parts thread I was thinking of agrees with you - the blue > gas cap seal is a viable replacement. > > http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/374871-why-oil-caps-always-seem-leak.html > > If the replacement seal doesn't fix it, the thread above and this thread > with pix explain why: > > http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w123-e-ce-d-cd-td/2544089-steel-oil-cap-dissection.html > > Another rubber seal inside the cap is probably rock hard and no longer > sealing. > > Solution: get a new oil cap, probably only plastic caps are available. > > - > Max > Charleston SC > > On Mon, Jan 8, 2018 at 9:47 AM, Dan--- via Mercedes > wrote: > >> For some reason I recall the old gas caps with the wide blue seal also >> worked as valve cover oil filler caps, too. >> >> The seal was a service part as well. >> >> > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] Oil filler cap gasket
Dan, the peach parts thread I was thinking of agrees with you - the blue gas cap seal is a viable replacement. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/374871-why-oil-caps-always-seem-leak.html If the replacement seal doesn't fix it, the thread above and this thread with pix explain why: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w123-e-ce-d-cd-td/2544089-steel-oil-cap-dissection.html Another rubber seal inside the cap is probably rock hard and no longer sealing. Solution: get a new oil cap, probably only plastic caps are available. - Max Charleston SC On Mon, Jan 8, 2018 at 9:47 AM, Dan--- via Mercedes wrote: > For some reason I recall the old gas caps with the wide blue seal also > worked as valve cover oil filler caps, too. > > The seal was a service part as well. > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] Oil filler cap gasket
For some reason I recall the old gas caps with the wide blue seal also worked as valve cover oil filler caps, too. Re: [MBZ] Oil filler cap gasket
I read on peach parts about a dissect of a metal 123 cap, and ( probably all of them) have a breather valve built into the cap, with more rubber inside that dries out and dies. Once they start to leak, if the new gasket didn't fix it, you need a new cap. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On January 7, 2018 12:11:23 AM EST, clay monroe via Mercedes wrote: >thank you.
