Short drives are hell on the DPF. I make sure my Jetta takes at least a 1hr run a month, more would be better but thats the frequency I go into the office these days. It seems to be a cascading effect as oil vapors are reintroduced via the PCV into the intake eventually getting burned and exhausted to the DPF. Also, interrupting the regeneration causes fuel to dilute the oil causing another host of problems including timing chain failure as early as 80K miles.
