I've bought a couple sets over the past 4 years at Costco fit was good,
quality was good, price was "not to bad" car quickly took on that
"leather smell" after install...

Might give them a try, I don't know if they currently carry them... Haven't
looked or a while.

What Dan said. I found that the cheap ones had artificial fleece on the

skin and aged/wore better.

I’ve had experience with them, but it’s secondary as they’ve come with cars
I’ve owned. I’ve never bought a set myself.

I do know from looking at them some years ago that they’re very price sensitive
in the sense that the quality can vary significantly based on what you pay. In
other words, if you want nice ones they’re expensive. That variable also comes
into play based on if you want generic ones or ones that are designed
specifically for your car.

2011-11-14 Thread Larry
Find a company that specializes in MB seats - I found Autos Int'l which
specializes in Porsche and they will sell just the rear seat portion I
need - so I suspect a co that does MBs will sell individual covers. I don't
have any current MB specialty magazines handy - grab one at a local
bookstore and I would think you'll find a company selling the seat covers
you need. They may have replacement springs as well - although Kaleb may
have a complete seat bottom...

Good luck

Except for W126 300SDs, most of which have Tex. Apart from those, I
have never seen a US-delivered W126 without leather, and I think very
few exist, just the rare special-order car here and there. I.e., any
gas W126 and any 300SDL or 350SDL is going to have leather.
Gray-market cars are of course a different animal. My Euro 500SEL for
example has bizarro two-tone and two-texture cloth seats: pale tan
with grooves (sort of like corduroy) in the middle, and light brown or
darker tan smooth velour on the bolsters and the outer seat bottom
panels.

I think most mercedes that are not "S" class have MB-Tex not leather.
It is a heavy duty vinyl with an embossed "grain" to look like leather
and perforated for breathability. Many people think it is actually
leather.

It lasts nearly forever in normal use.

MBtex is vinyl - damned good vinyl - in my opinion, lasts longer than
leather, which tends to dry out and crack with age. I've had 3 MBs with
MBtex, one with leather; I like the MBtex better.

Re: [MBZ] Seat covers

2009-12-02 Thread E M
the benz tex is their vinyl, which is often mistaken for leather. Your SD
most likely has vinyl now, as most SDs came with that. It's very durable,
and I feel, often stands up better than leather, and is easier to maintain.

I believe all parts are available to rebuild seats, including covers.
Buying enough leather to do all the seats in an SD, not to mention your
time, would be quite a job. You can ask if your dealer has any new benz-tex
covers in stock, for you to have a look at and decide if the quality is what
you're after.

Good luck,

MB-Tex is:

• Somewhat difficult to discern from leather
• Developed {I'm told} by M/B as a service interior for taxi's.
• Very comfortable as it's perforated.

My SDL had leather.

30 years ago, an upholster friend covered the bench seat of my Datsun P/U. It
wore like iron until the bed fell off.

I found a set of Australian sheepskins made for a CLK320 that happen to fit
my 124 seats pretty well. Cost me $120 on ebay - seatcovers, headrests, and
steering wheel cover - 1.5" pile.

So far, they have performed great. For over a year - still doing good.
Actually had to remove them & run them thru the washing machine last week

Hey--

You have all been great with suggestions-- I'm hoping for some direction
on

this one..

I've got an '84 300SD.. It 'arrived' with some pretty well worn sheepskin
type seat covers..

Okay-- I'll be the first to admit, I hate seat covers of ANY kind, usually
they don't fit well, and they bunch up, don't stay on, etc.. The
passenger

seat though has cracks in it-- so I'm sorta stuck on this one..

I don't really 'need' sheepskins-- nor do I have $250+ to throw out for
them..

I'm looking for a good fitting, and actually, almost preferably cloth seat
cover for the front seats-- it'd be great if it included an armrest cover,
as that's pretty cracked up, too..

I want something that will fit well, and hold up awhile... I'm willing to
throw about a hundred on them.. I seem to think that's a reasonable
amount.. I have the feeling the "Mercedes" logo on the car drives up the
price of everything-- I've seen that with my BMW motorcycle. It doesn't
need to be 'Mercedes Specific" if it fits well, I guess is my point..

Thanks in advance..

I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions about seat covers; I dislike them,
too.

I do have another suggestion, though. Please sign your name at the bottom
of your posts. That way we'll know who we're talking to and you'll get
more replies (though I haven't seen any replies from Marshall Booth
