He sold his business and went to work for WorldPac, his primary supplier.

The new owner was either incompetent and unprepared - or a criminal.

With Rusty, we had good advise, good service, good parts, and
good prices. Now we have to take our chances at other places
that don't have all four.

I have used Rock Auto for a number of hard parts over the last year or so and
been very pleased with them. Last one was a rebuilt front caliper for the 98
S420 Tommymobile. The price was good and the core return process quite simple.

I also like their close out setup with the RSS feeds. I get a heads up on
anything they're closing out for specific vehicles. I've scored some good deals
this way several times.

The only issue I have had with them was buying some close out NOS shocks that
were listed as Bilstein and ended up being Meyle. I called, talked to a an
English speaking support person in Madison, WI, who promptly issued credit and
sent a prepaid call tag to return them. I noticed they changed the part
description a few days later. In fairness to them, the sticker on the boxes
said, "Replacement for Bilstein ".

Re: [MBZ] Starter motor

2016-01-08 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Just to clarify, I've had my wholesale account with Mercedes Benz of Tampa for
nearly 20 years. I've always gone to them over the years when they were
competitive.

The really nice thing is that they empower their employees to do whatever is
necessary to get the business when possible. For example, I called earlier
this week about MB ATF. They told me wholesale was around $14/liter, but they
looked on the Internet and saw others were selling it for less, so they gave me
the lower price.

How many dealers do that?

1. Took a job with WorldPac.

2. Sold business to Trent, the brother of Rusty's UPS driver IIRC.

3. Trent had problems delivering parts that were ordered and paid for.

4. We now call up Dr Fatty AKA Gary (Jabba) Hurst, or use the major online
retailers and FLAPS.
Some, like Dan P., have formed satisfactory jobber relationships with their
local dealers and get Starmarked parts now.

I've got this 240D that has had an oft-patch together starter

one. Yeah, I kinda dense - probably should have spent the
money a year or two ago.

But where to buy...

I called all the local parts stores. No one could get me a
Bosch rebuilt. Lots of "just a good as a Bosch" and such.

I sure was spoiled with Rusty!

After looking at a number of websites, I decide on RockAuto.
It was pretty clear that I could really choose a Bosch
rebuild SR67X. Equivalents were available, but were clearly
marked as not Bosch. What cinched the deal for me was not
only a very good price - but for the core return I could have
them print a label on their account! The price is deducted
from the core charge.

So - for about $110 plus $45 core plus less than $15 shipping
I got a starter. It works. Yea! And it was easy to get a
label printed - and this heavy old starter is shipping
halfway across the country for less than $15. I doubt I
could have found a way to ship it for less $35.

So far, I'm pretty happy with my dealings with RockAuto.

Ah, I see. Stick your head in the sand for a couple of years and everything
