How many dot brake fluid is correct and what do I do with a manual

DOT 4. I usually buy it from Rusty.

The manual transmission in a Mercedes DOES NOT use gear oil -- it uses
ATF! If you put gear oil in a Mercedes manual transmission, you will ruin
it, not only because it will get improper lubrication, but because the
sulfur in the gear oil will attack the metal of the synchros.

IIRC, a Dexron II or III product will work, but I have used Mobil1 ATF.

So how much ATF does it take to do a change out of a manual

Not much compared to an automatic transmission. 2 or 3 quarts, IIRC,
which I may not. As I mentioned earlier, my books are packed up in a
storage container on our driveway.

Just be certain that you can remove the fill plug before removing the drain
plug!
