Re: [MBZ] W116, more fuel leaks
Would it be possible to just remove the leaky pump and use a bolt to plug the hole as a temporary fix? I don't know. Making a new air seal gasket was my temporary fix. In 2006. Sold the car that year, it's probably still working. Maybe you could stretch an o ring over the knob part and then screw it in so the ring seals against the housing Mike On Sep 1, 2011 9:26 PM, "Michael Canfield" wrote: > That would be a pretty odd bolt to come up with. > > Mike > On Sep 1, 2011 6:39 PM, "Allan Streib" wrote: >> Jim Cathey writes: >> >>> There are two seals in the screw-down one, neither are >>> separately available. Re: [MBZ] W116, more fuel leaks
I believe it requires a 15/16 crow foot wrench to get the primer out and 7/8? to put the newer style in. You could bend a wrench to do the job and if it is stubborn to get loose it helps to get the fuel lines out of the way. Then, if you went that far it is only 3 10mm bolts to take off the whole lift pump assy. and use a real wrench in a vise. Mike On Sep 1, 2011 9:46 AM, "Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] W116, more fuel leaks
the manual pump to purge any air. The pump was leaking as I operated it, and after screwing it back down and starting the car, there is now a massive fuel leak around the pump stem. There are two seals in the screw-down one, neither are separately available. The one that seals it when screwed down, however, is easily replaceable (IIRC) but you have to make your own. (Scissors, buna-N rubber gasket mat'l.) I did this on the Frankenheap. The other seal makes a mess when you pump, and cannot be replaced without basically destroying the pump, but so long as the pump doesn't leak air when not in use you can put up with a bit of that. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
