Can you disassemble the actual switch? I have fixed
microswitches before. Severe burning and melting, not
so much, but this isn't a high-powered application.

I have to pretty much disassemble the door and go through some wrist shredding
gyrations a 'la 108/114 heater blower motor replacement to get at it.

I don't want to do it without having a contingency plan...,

I have used that to find cars that might have what I need then drive there.
Some if them are hit and miss as far as dealing with people over the Internet

I would think that a micro switch is a generic electronic part that could be
sourced from one of the good online sources for less than $5??

Re: [MBZ] Wanted: W140 LH Door Latch

2013-09-16 Thread Dan Penoff
I wish.

It is engineered in to the door latch mechanism and associated wiring harness.
There is some really funky linkage it interacts with in order to tell the
closing assist system when the door is ajar.

I have been a controls guy for many decades, and my area of expertise was in
electromechanical controls, so I know microswitches. If there was a way I could
use a stock or generic microswitch, believe me, I would.

That's why I'm looking for a left hand door latch assembly from a W140. They
all used the same microswitch.

Just doing a cursory search shows that complete door latch assemblies are going
for between $40 and $70 used in places like FleaBay and other online venues. A
small price to pay compared to the cost of a new microswitch.
