Re: [MBZ] Waterproof wire connectors
Big Clive did a video on them recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unxEdyW8RP8He liked them with caveats. I've got a set, it seems like they're all pretty much the same as the one linked. I think I've only used it once so far but it worked well. I used a heat gun but I think a hair dryer would work. I *suspect* the metal is some alloy of bismuth which should melt at less than 100C. It commonly gets used to cast firearms chambers because it melts easily and shrinks a known amount. -Curt On Saturday, May 2, 2020, 10:16:48 AM EDT, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: What do you all think of these? https://odyhouse.com/products/waterproof-solder-wire-connectors Sent from my iPhone ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Solder is not especially strong and it has long been understood that it is poor practice to depend on solder for mechanical strength in a joint. Ah - but it has adhesive! The adhesive is on the tube. Polyolefin tube will stretch when cold. Then shrink when hot. Thus "heatstrink tubing" And soldering is less durable in a high stress and vibration environment than a crimp. It should be fairly waterproof though. I would be inclined to use gooey on the inside heatshrink tubing over ordinary crimp butt splices. Or wheel bearing grease and ordinary shrink tubing. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] Waterproof wire connectors
May be OK but I am dubious about any solder that melts at such a low temp. Ancor makes crimp connectors with adhesive-lined heat-shrink sleeves for marine applications. I've had good luck with those Ancor products but they are pricey. > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of > Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > Sent: Saturday, May 02, 2020 10:17 AM > To: Mercedes Discussion List > Cc: Kaleb Striplin > Subject: [MBZ] Waterproof wire connectors > > What do you all think of these? > > https://odyhouse.com/products/waterproof-solder-wire-connectors > > Sent from my iPhone > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Looks like they are worth trying. Do they work with just a hair dryer? I think you'll need a heat gun.
