I wish I had seen this before I went out and bought an Asus USB-N10. I
could not get it to work with CentOS 5.6, even with downloading the
latest driver from Realtek.

Get a USB wireless card from BigBoxMart or similar, there's a good chance
that it will work.

If it doesn't, you can always return it.

I tether my android cell phone to my macbook with an app called easy
tether.  Works great and bypasses the cell carriers tethering fees.  I am on
Sprint, not sure if it matters.

Last I knew, Craig was using a 2006 vintage Nokia on Tracfone.
The data port on it is somewhat crippled, I can't even get the official Nokia 
bluetooth module to work with mine.

If you have a cardbus slot you will probably already have the driver for
anything you pick up, but you will have to find a cardbus NIC first.  Still,
an alternative.

I have researched a lot of drivers, so if you can't find a driver let me
know.  For what it's worth the 11n USB NICs are more likely compatible with
Linux.

I installed one of those last week on a client's Mom's Win XP system.
Works Great. And if I recall correctly there were Linux drivers on the 
Install CD.

You can get a USB wireless adapter.  The desktop is not so old it
doesn't have USB right?  Linux should support the common ones
