Hi, What does the valley-island-io - feature include? To make things not so easy and simple, we need to run our system 32-bit and not 64-bit. Valleyisland - support has both, but corei7 has only 64-bit. We are also using Dora-branch and corei7 support is only for master-branch. Re: [meta-intel] Valleyisland graphics in Dora
Hi, I can confirm this that it works. I had too old kernel version in my system. I updated it to 3.10.35(including the git hashes) and now the accelerated graphics works and I don't have that error anymore that I had before and also Intel-driver works on Xorg. This brings me to another problem I encountered while updating the meta-intel. We are using rt-kernel in our product and it seems that valleyisland - layer has only support for normal kernel. Is the rt-kernel support coming or should I switch to master-version to get that? I tried updating my rt-kernel recipes to be used with new kernel version and valleyisland, but even though I changed the KBRANCH to standard/preempt-rt/base and updated the git hashes the compilation fails. It seems that the configuration of the kernel doesn't go properly and valleyisland-32 - kernel is configured for 64-bit etc. I'm guessing that the kernel is missing the support for valleyisland-32? One other thing regarding the configurations too. I'm not sure if this is more of generic poky stuff or meta-intel, but feel free to answer if you wish. How is the kernel configuration going now? I mean I have those pieces of configuration files that has one or more config-options (Like CONFIG_IGB=y) and then I define them in recipe as SRC_URI and they 'just work'. That works when needing to add something, but how do I remove some configurations that I don't need/want? Ie. which is the proper way to do this? Hi, Any idea of the timeframe when the rt-support is coming? I have some time schedule pressure building up.. Current dora branch would be pretty much everything we need at the moment except the rt-support that is missing. Oh the config-remove goes that easily. Yes, I know that if/when I go to change the configuration it's up to me to get it working, but that's okay. Re: [meta-intel] New valleyisland support
Hi, Okay, here is a little background and some new issues I've encountered. We have been using Yocto 1.5.1 earlier to create image for our HWs. Now the new HW uses E38xx so I started testing the new Yocto/meta-intel - branches to get (better) support for it. Since the current ValleyIsland support for meta-intel was for Dylan - branch of Yocto and also because I wasn't able to create image with working Intel HD Graphics driver I started looking for newer versions. Graphics worked with VESA-driver, but not with actual Intel HD Graphics driver. Also the kernel was quite old being 3.8.13. I did some digging and noticed that dvhart/bsp-ng had support for the intel-corei7 so that's why I ended up there. I never intended to use it other than testing if I can create working image that has working Intel HD Graphics for Valleyisland. Then I tried latest poky/meta-intel combination since dvhart/bsp-ng was merged there. When trying to create core-image-sato using the intel-corei7-64 bsp I ended up with this: ERROR: Fetcher failure: Unable to find revision 29594404d7fe73cd80eaa4ee8c43dcc53970c60e in branch meta even from upstream ERROR: Function failed: Fetcher failure for URL: 'git://git.pokylinux.org/linux-yocto-dev.git;nocheckout=1;branch=standard/base,meta;name=machine,meta'. Good to hear that linut-rt - support was not dropped, but merely just changed. Btw. Is it intentional that in intel-corei7-64.conf the PREFERRED_PROVIDER_virtual/kernel is set using = and not ?= which makes it impossible to override it from later scripts? Or am I doing something wrong again? I had to comment out that line to be able to use my own kernel version on later tests. This is a development/testing branch, certainly not something meant for productization use. We're merging bits of bsp-ng into master as it's tested, verified, and fixed up. Valleyisland support specifically is available in Dylan under meta-isg/meta- valleyisland. Rebecca and her team are working on adding it to Dora with a 3.10 kernel I believe, but I'll leave it to her to comment on that. If you are just looking for Baytrail SoC support (not specifically valleyisland) then that is now available in meta-intel/master using the intel-corei7-64 BSP. This is a new approach to Intel BSPs which supports multiple boards/CPUs with a single BSP. As to linux-yocto-rt, we have not removed support for it. If you are referring to the removal of the linux-yocto-rt*bbappend files in dvhart/bsp-ng, that is done in favor of a new mechanism called the intel-common kernel, which uses a single kernel build across multiple BSPs, removing the need for the bbappend in each BSP layer - you'll note it is still present under common/recipes-kernel/linux. If you can provide some more context about what you are trying to do, we should be able to help make sure you are working with the right sources, and prioritize any development to fill any gaps. From: meta-intel-boun...@yoctoproject.org [mailto:meta-intel- boun...@yoctoproject.org] On Behalf Of Chris Tapp Following on from the chiefriver BSP retirement thread, what is the general policy for BSP life-cycles within meta-intel? For example, we committed to using the Cedartrail BSP a couple of years back as if offered support for what was then a new platform with a reasonable forward buy-time. However, support for that has been dropped even though boards are still available using the chipset (e.g. ASRock DN2800MT) and these are going to be available for a few years yet. From our point of view it is a pity not to be able to make use of the improvements and enhancements that have gone into later Yocto versions, especially as we're continually updating our software. This interests me as well since we have been planning on using Yocto on our HW for a long time. We also noticed the drop of Cedartrail BSP and we ended up on porting it to newer Yocto ourselves which of course wasn't what we were hoping to get when switching to Yocto. You won't be able to use a BSP that relies upon it with earlier stable branches, unless you also add the tune files - Darren, is this supported? Thanks Paul, You are correct. dvhart/bsp-ng requires the master branch of oe-core or poky. The first Yocto Project release to support the new BSPs will be 1.6 this spring. Teemu, do you have a specific version of poky you *need* to use for other versions? If so, the backport of the tune files shouldn't be overly complicated, but there work that would need to be done there. Also note, The intel-corei7-64 bits from dvhart/bsp-ng are now (as of last night) merged into meta-intel/master. We are currently using Dora (1.5.1) version of Poky. There aren't requirement for that, but we use because it's latest 'stable' release. I guess nothing is stable in this business though. From: Darren Hart [mailto:dvh...@linux.intel.com] Sent: 14. helmikuuta 2014 18:54 I leave the rationale that to Boon Leon and Rebecca. However, if you are looking for something newer to support Bay Trail, the newly added intel-corei7-64 BSP will have support for Bay Trail shortly (currently building and testing on my workstation). This will have support on both linux- yocto-dev (3.13...3.14...) and linux-yocto_3.10 (which is now 3.10 LTSI based). The 3.8 BSP does have a couple additional drivers that are still working their way upstream, but if you don't need those specific things, the newer BSP might suit your needs better. Let us know what you need and we'll be happy to help. That sounds what I'm looking for. Our current Yocto-system is using Dora-branch and using Dylan-branch in meta-intel causes some problems although so far only one I've noticed is mesa - recipe version. I'm guessing video need some configuration since core-image-sato cannot get X-server started. When do you think the intel-corei7-64 BSP Bay Trail support will be out? -Teemu Thanks, Darren Teemu Keskinarkaus Software system engineer maximatecc - Humans in control -Original Message- From: meta-intel-boun...@yoctoproject.org [mailto:meta-intel-boun...@yoctoproject.org] On Behalf Of Darren Hart Sent: 13. helmikuuta 2014 21:09 To: Darren Hart; Chang, Rebecca Swee Fun; Kamble, Nitin A; meta-intel@yoctoproject.org Subject: Re: [meta-intel] [PATCHv3 0/5] meta-valleyisland: add new bsp layer into meta-intel On 2/13/14, 8:16, Darren Hart dvh...@linux.intel.com wrote: On 2/13/14, 8:06, Darren Hart dvh...@linux.intel.com wrote: On 2/11/14, 16:59, Chang, Rebecca Swee Fun rebecca.swee.fun.ch...@intel.com wrote: -Original Message- From: Kamble, Nitin A Sent: 12 February, 2014 1:34 AM To: Chang, Rebecca Swee Fun; meta-intel@yoctoproject.org Cc: ch...@yoctoproject.org Subject: Re: [meta-intel] [PATCHv3 0/5] meta-valleyisland: add new bsp layer into meta-intel On 2/11/2014 7:52 AM, rebecca.swee.fun.ch...@intel.com wrote: From: Chang, Rebecca Swee Fun rebecca.swee.fun.ch...@intel.com Hi all, This patchset is to add new BSP layer into meta-intel. meta-valleyisland is a BSP maintained by ISG. The BSP is made specifically for Intel Atom E38XX Processor E38XX Development Kit (formerly known as Valley Island). Valley Island BSP is meant to support Valley Island Development Kit, Bayley Bay CRB and Bakersport CRB. Please pull this patch set into meta-intel Dylan branch. Thank you. Rebecca Other than the PRINC and the SRCREV update from Boon Leon, does anyone have anymore feedback on this? If not, I'll make those two changes myself and merge the series. I'll wait two hours for additional feedback and then merge. This is what I have queued, please review to confirm this is exactly what you want merged: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/meta-intel-contrib/log/?h=dv h art / dylan/valleyisland Merged, thanks Rebecca. -- Darren Hart Yocto Project - Linux Kernel Intel Open Source Technology Center ___ meta-intel mailing list meta-intel@yoctoproject.org https://lists.yoctoproject.org/listinfo/meta-intel Actuant Corporation Email Notice This message is intended only for the use of the Addressee and may contain information that is PRIVILEGED and/or CONFIDENTIAL.
