I used it for the past several months (mostly without complains) and I think it

It should run on all platforms (how many software do that;-); I only checked it on

 It sends attachments too.

Hi Andu,

Yes, sure ! I would be very interested in trying it, if you agree :-)
I will need to add such functions to the mc-based e-com server i'm just working
on http://cyb.cndp.fr.

Couldn't you upload it to MetaCard contributions or something?
If not, could you send it by e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'd go for working with you guys on producing a robust cross-platform email client.
I've added an outliner and some complex filtering, and am still working on it.

There is heaps I'd like to add...

Hi Andu,

of course we are interested.

I am sure everybody on this list is really hot to see that script.

But maybe they are too shy to express themself :-)

So please post it somewhere.

I'm sure Kevin of Runtime Revolution (formerly X-Worlds Computing)
will put it somewhere on their server.
(If he finds the time ;-)

P.S. to some of you:

Please folks, stop quoting tons of text.

I noticed a couple of posts consisting of nothing but quoted text. ???

RE: RE: MetaCard based browser?

2000-08-10 Thread LORI FRAIND

SCORM stands for Sharable Couseware (or Content) Object Reference Model
This initiative, headed by the ADL Co-Laboratory in Orlando, has
far-reaching implications in how training is provided within the military in
the coming years. SCORM aims to establish guidelines to:
Exploit existing network-based technologies
Create platform-neutral, reusable courseware and content
Promote widespread collaboration to satisfy common needs
Enhance performance with emerging and next-generation learning
technologies
Develop common framework that drives COTS product cycle
Establish a coordinated implementation plan.

Before I did the research to answer your question, I thought this was an
industry-wide attempt to set standards for developing computer-based
training and student tracking devices. I had not realized it was "merely" a
DoD initiative.

Hope this helps!

What's a SCORM when you find one?

I found out today that in April 2001, the Department of Defense will be
issuing a directive that all future training development must be WBT and
SCORM compliant. I hope MetaCard will qualify as a Web-Based Training
mechanism. (It's my understanding that the SCORM part is the responsibility
of the developers). I'd say the DoD is a big enough market not to want to
address their needs

If your goal is to create a new standard for page description, then
maybe

you have a reachable (and laudible) goal, but for current HTML, I would
suggest taking a step back and evaluating if you really have that kind
of

 time available.

I agree. Limited compatibility with existing pages is fine, but if this
quixotic quest has any chance (let's face it--against Microsoft, a
snowball has a better chance in...) then the focus has to be on
 downloadable stacks/scripts as "pages."

I can see it now--little badges everywhere on the web saying "This site
best viewed in MetaCard!" This morning, www.warnerbros.com said I had to
have Netscape or Internet Explorer, _and_ Flash, in order to use their
site at _all_ What a thrill it would be to have some major site do a
slight twist on that, and tell me that I needed the free MetaCard viewer
to access their site...sorry, I was daydreaming for a moment there...

gc, who still thinks this idea could be great fun...

Certainly! I would be especially interested if the program described *why*
things work! There are a *lot* of things in this area that I do not
understand.

Write File Anamoly on Windows

2000-08-10 Thread Sivakatirswami

I thought our tiny internet portal stack was all "pau" as they say in Hawaii
(over, finished) but the following script which works on a Mac doesn't work
on a PC

on mouseUp
  create directory "mcPrefs"
if fld "tProxyIP" is empty then
put empty into line 1 of url ("file://mcPrefs/proxyPrefs.txt")
  else
put "Proxy Settings" ","fld "tProxyIP" ":" fld "tProxyPort" into
line 1 of url ("file://mcPrefs/proxyPrefs.txt")
  end if
  checkForProxy
  show Button "Enter Proxy"
  hide group "ProxySet"
end mouseUp

on checkForProxy
set the httpproxy to item 2 of line 1 url
("file://mcPrefs/proxyPrefs.txt")
end checkforProxy

What is happening is that on a Mac if I fill in the proxy and port fields,
and hit the button on the top it creates a directory called "mcPrefs" and
this line:

put "Proxy Settings" ","fld "tProxyIP" ":" fld "tProxyPort" \
into line 1 of url ("file://mcPrefs/proxyPrefs.txt")

will open and write a file and close it, even if the file does not exist to
start with (the syntax implies a file exists, but it doesn't need to, at
least on a MAC.)

but, on the PC, it doesn't write a file to disk. It does create a directory,
but if you check inside the folder there is no "proxyPrefs.txt" file there.

Anyone have a clue? Why would it work on a MAC and not a PC?

You can download the stack which behaves this way. . .it is zipped and up at

Rant

2000-08-10 Thread Scott Rossi

OK, I'm sitting at home working on a proposal for a client that will involve
some multimedia development in MC. It should be a nice little project, a
holiday greeting disc from a winery and an online music company.

Part of the project will involve superimposing some elegant antialiased
typography on top of suitable holiday images. After contemplating the
methods available to achieve this effect, it occurs to me that the most
efficient way to pull this off would be to overlay masked images of the type
on top of the holiday images, so both type and image could be swapped and
animated at will.

But once again, reality dawns and I go through the old ritual of banging my
head against the wall because I realize I'm going to have to build all the
imagery as animated GIFs.

If only MC supported object translucency, I wouldn't have to jump through
hoops every time I do this type of project.

Meanwhile, the MetaCard slogan, nay, rallying cry, keeps echoing through my
head: "There's a better way to do that."

I'm still waiting for that better way.

Regards,

Scott
