as I understand VW/MW/EC as debugging tools it wold be a good idea to have
them in an enabled tool menu in debugMode or in the enabled debug menu
itself...

besides: what about the spaceBar as the only or additional trigger-key for

Hmm, maybe the VW/MW/EC dialog menu items should just be moved from

MC 2.5 Script editor

2002-12-07 Thread Ernst M. Reicher
Hi listmembers,
1. is anybody missing the old scripteditor menus:
Messages
Control Structures
Commands
Functions
Properties
?

2. in former versions you could leave breakpoints in your scripts and they
didn´t do anything without opening the debugger and if you needed further
debugging you could easy find the old debugging points.
In version 2.5 there is no extra debugger and MC debugs - stops at - every
breakpoint!?!?!

Am I right???

  Ernst

is there a recommended strategy for a multiuser-networkstack??

I want to write a stack to which multiple users can add lines in a field and
each lione starts with dateTime
Each user has a UI-stack and makes access to the mainstack on the server...

Hi Karl,
first I love MetaCard
but the scriptingEditor is really a little outdated
obviously is Scott working hard to keep pace with other featurewishes and
gave the fancy UI-part to revolution

I tried to familiarize with revolution several times - but its too funky -
to overloaded
there are a lot of good features but.:-(((
and they have something like you are looking for!
probably you are thinking of something like in VB??

what about things like -
- oups what OS are you working on??? -
typeIt4Me or quicKeys on Mac
shortHand on Windows??
but somebody has to write the library

 From: Karl Becker [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm not sure if this is possible to write a script that would do this
(it's definitely not possible very easily, I don't think), but wouldn't
it be great if, while editing an object's script, you could simply type
in the first couple characters of a variable name and the entire word
would be automatically filled out for you, just as URLs are
 auto-completed in web browsers now?

If a script could somehow keep track of the unrecognized words in a
script (those that aren't reserved by MetaCard) and then figure out when
you've typed in the first letter or two of a variable name, then
autocomplete the rest of the word (while keeping it highlighted so you
could easily change the auto-completed part, just like in a web
browser)... boy, would that be useful!

Has anyone ever done anything like this? Ever attempted to? I'd
imagine a script could simply be put in the script editor stack
somehow... but I'm a bit chicken to attempt this all by myself :-)

Does anyone have a good handler to search and edit all scripts in a
stack, the way you can in Hypercard?

I diddled with the Hypercard search script handler, but have yet to
get it to work. Seems like it should be so simple...

Re: Feature request -- is standard file operations

2002-02-16 Thread Ernst M. Reicher

Hi Philip,
some time ago I tried to start a discussion on something like this but
no one replied

I think that standard operations like the one you mentioned should be basics
delete file
copy file to
move file to
rename file

delete and rename work in MC in the logical way... see MCreference...
but copy and move is not supported in this way
as fas as I know you have to use the illogical workaround of put URL to
copy a file...
and for moving you have to copy and delete in seperate steps

  Ernst

I haven't looked at 2.4 yet so perhaps this has already been addressed,
but
something that would be helpful would be in the procedure to get the files
of
a certain folder. At present, it is something like this:

   put the directory into oldDirectory
   set the directory to c:/myFolder1/myFolder2
   put the files into myFiles
   set the directory to oldDirectory

It would be nice to simply write something like:

put the files of c:/myFolder1/myFolder2 into myFiles

 Any possibility here, Scott?

People using MC should find a place where they put their

We don´t need to reinvent something like gimp or linux - - but a more

 Use the centuryCutOff function.

 /H

Hi,
as I understand in the manual the centuryCutOff function is just for
deciding what century if you use a 2-digit year...

e.g. try to get the weekday of a day 50 years and 10 days in the future:
get the date
convert it to dateitems
add 50 to item 1 of it
add 10 to item 3 of it
convert it to dateitems

invalid date

it doesn´t concern the centuryCutOff

  Ernst

Yeah what you need to do (what I did) is come up with routines to
dd/mm/ and time to julian date and then write a few routines to
convert from julian date back to a string, to and from dateitems, and
calculate the day of week from julian date.

 Tuviah

Sorry,
but this sounds a little bit too complicated...
why does MCs convert to dateitems not work outside this ranges??
e.g. just to get the proper weekday of a day 50 years plus 10 days in future
should work with it
get the date
convert it to dateitems
add 50 to item 1 of it
add 10 to item 3 of it
convert it to dateitems
and as usual the last item should be the weekday
but MC returns invalid date

it must be a bug!!

copy file - an endless story

2002-01-02 Thread Ernst M. Reicher

Hi all,
I partial read the tread of "copy file" or put URL
and so on

I wonder why the MC-team made it so
complicated...

in each operating system I know (its only MacOS,
DOS and Windo(w)s) these kind of filemanipulations (copy, move, rename and
delete) are the most basical ones...
MacOs and Windows its by dragging
but its similar to the basics in DOS
copy x to y
move x to y
rename x to y
delete x

Why couldn´t this be so in MC too

wouldn´t be something like that or similar sound
logical - more logical than triing to copy a simple file by the for evereybody
understandable command: put URL "binfile." into URL bla bla
bla
