Re: Linux, anyone?

2003-02-28 Thread Herve Proudhon
My nutrition shareware Diondine has been avaible for Linux, Windows and
Mac for more than 3 years. My sales results :
Mac : 15%
Windows : 85%
Linux : 1 sale with a stolen Credit Card (results : a Kagi chargeback
and a "free" registration code available on the Internet !)

From a Linux forum :
   - Is there a nutrition program available for Linux ?
   - Diondine but
  1 It's not Open source
  2 It costs money
So, the last version of my program is not avaible for linux !

Are any of you selling commercial Rev- or MC-based apps to the Linux
market?
I'd be interested in learning about your experiences there.

With MC's speed on Linux, it should be able to compete favorably with
most
ported wares in terms of performance. The OS itself seems to be moving
quickly into a suitable desktop alternative in terms of both
capabilities
and ease of use (Business Week reports that 10% of desktop machines in
India
are Linux).

Since building for Linux takes only a few seconds in Rev or MC, I
wonder to
what degree our choice of tools is handing us a good opportunity

I'd like to use your ScriptEditor. Unfortunately, it is far too slow for
me. Opening my main stack script lasts about 1 minute 45 seconds ! (Mac
G4 767 Mhz - less than 1 second in the default Metacard editor) . I
suspect the script colorization, but I don't know if there is a way to
turn it off (and the "Preferences" don't work). The cursor is
constantly rotating in the editor. Is it a bug or the normal behaviour ?

Re: Metacard menu?

2002-11-08 Thread Herve Proudhon

In my experience, it is unfortunately necessary to thoroughly test your
program in the three environments (native MacOs8 or 9, Classic under
OsX and Osx). Differences exists in :
   - menus (specially the first one, as you experiment)
   - program icons
   - information in the finder "Information" window
   - aspects of buttons, scrolling field and palette windows whatever
LookAndFeel you choose. For instance, defaut buttons are very nice
looking on OsX, but you cannot control several of their properties
(colors, for instance).
   - some behaviours for pop-up buttons or window activation,
applescript ...
and certainly numerous others I have not discovered yet.

Just an example during the first test of the new version of my
nutrition shareware : the program closed at launch because "the
filename of this stack" does not give (at least apparently) the same
result in Classic and OsX.

Herve Proudhon

Shari,

You could write the code in the startup handler of your app that would
change the value in the Info.pList file, but that would only "take"
for
subsequent launches; the first time, the user would see "MetaCard".

That would be better than a permanent useless menu hanging out there.
Especially one that doesn't even have my program's name.

I still wonder if it's just another menu btn, why not just insert code
to change it or hide it, as I would any other menu btn?

The other way is to ship your standalone to someone with OS X and let
them
fix it for you (until you get a copy of OS X of your own).

Not planning to upgrade in the near future. Too many of my programs
would break :-)

Re: Can't Build Standalones in OS X

2002-11-06 Thread Herve Proudhon

Hi Everyone,

Using MC 2.4.3 to build a standalone. I moved resources and followed
the steps in the standalone builder, but whenever I double-click the
standalone, it opens, its window appears for a fraction of a second,
and then disappears. What am I doing wrong?

	Greg

When you ask the system to open a stack with a specific engine, a
"usro" resource is created. This resource is copied into the standalone
; so the system tries to open the standalone with an other one !
Simply delete this resource with resedit. This works with OsX and
Classic.

Best regards

Re: Warn before quit - anyone?

2002-10-22 Thread Herve Proudhon
Does anyone else have any ideas as to why my stack would not be pausing
when I want to display a dialog before a program quits once someone
selects Quit from the menu? This is on OS X, too. I have not been
able to try it on OS 9 or Windows, though I'm guessing it's the same.

Thanks
Karl

I have the same problem, but only on MacOsX with MetacardCarbonMach-O.

How to trap (or to delete, or disable) the "Quit MyProgram" in the menu
which is automatically created when building an application ?
It is possible to handle the "About MyProgram" by creating a dummy
"About MyProgram" in the "Help menu.
Is there such a thing for "Quit" ?

Colors of combobox buttons

2001-04-24 Thread Herve Proudhon

Is there a way to control the backgroundcolor (and the
backgroundpattern) of the "field part" of a ComboBox button ? I can't change
the default white color. I tried all the color related properties. I even
tried various stupid things like "set the backgroundcolor of the field of cd
button mybutton" !!!

Test of my dietary shareware "Diondine"

2000-11-22 Thread Herve Proudhon
Title: Test of my dietary shareware "Diondine"

Sorry if this announcement is too off-topic.

I search testers for the English version of my dietary shareware
³Diondine² (ideal weight, theoretical caloric requirements, daily food
intake monitoring). Diondine is entirely ³Made with Metacard² and runs
naturally on PC-Linux, Macintosh and PC-Windows.
If somebody in the list is interested in food and weight control, I would
appreciate receiving some feedback, including comments and criticisms.

   Beta-test download site :  "http://www.diondine.com/beta/beta.html"
(Warning. The files are -quite large- compressed standalones :  2 Megs for
Linux and Windows,  2.9 Megs for Mac).

Best regards.

Re : stuttering mac stack

2000-10-30 Thread Herve Proudhon

Here, your stack runs smoothly on a G3/266 and quite decently on a 6100/60 !
I experimented jerky movements in a program using the move command when
Internet Explorer is running in the background. I recall Scott said it is an
OpenTransport problem affecting all time-sensitive and Internet programs.

Herve
