Re: Sockets

2001-09-18 Thread Rod McCall

There is a sockets example on the Runtime website, have a look at the user
contributions section on the page below.

 Hi Greg,

There's a lot of info out there about sockets. Some of it can even be
understood by non-network-engineer types! No MetaTalk examples, but
 you'll get it anyway.

 Here's a nice definition:
 http://www.freesoft.org/CIE/Topics/20.htm

You may gain more insight by comparing that one to some others:

 http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/s/socket.html

For additional 'net info, I personally think the freesoft.org
Programmed Instruction Course is a great intro to how the internet
 works:

 Hope this helps.
 Phil

  Hi Everyone,

Where can I find a primer on sockets, something like Sockets for
Dummies with lots of MetaCard examples.

Re: .mt script for processing web form data

2001-09-17 Thread Rod McCall

We recently built just such a script with email checking here at Runtime. I
will dig out some info on it and possibly send it to you. Its very easy to
do!!

Is there any specific bit you are unsure of?

Finally there is a brief guide to CGI script on our YahooGroups site.

After putting it on the shelf for sometime my need to create some
scripts to

Reconfiguring PERL scripts to do what we need is out of the question...
but
before I get too far into this...has anyone already created a .mt script
to
process web form data submissions? goal is save to the data to a file
and
serve up an acknowledgement page to the user.

If so, can you email that to me off list (and send to Simon Lord also
for
  his site...)
I've made things like it, but I don't have them available yet. But I do
think this is not very difficult or massive. So I think you want some more
than what you say here (like error checking, e-mail sending and such). Can
 you be more specific?

  Thanks!
