So what is the final word on this? Sockets scare the Hell out of me, and I kind of thought three lines of script using mailto, a click and said stack would be on its way. I don't think you can attach the files by script, but a search through the archives should show you how to set the "to" and "subject" field using "launch mailto:";. I think someone also developed an e-mail stack that sends mail and attachments out of Metacard directly using sockets. Sorry, I don't have a url. (Does anyone know?) But a small warning about using e-mail attachments for sending back results. I've done something similar, but have had a number of reports of the attachments getting corrupted on the way. If possible, you might want to look at using a server-based solution (cgi, etc.) to handle the sending of results. > >PS I now have a full licence! Now you can write long and inefficient scripts like the rest of us. :) Cheers Dave Cragg Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/metacard@lists.runrev.com/ Info: http://www.xworlds.com/metacard/mailinglist.htm Please send bug reports to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, not this list.
automatically mailing stacks?
I am in the early stages of a research project involving computer based psychological testing. This takes place at a variety of 'satellite' centres, with the usual dogs dinner IT facilities. I can't make any assumptions about the systems other than they will be Win boxes with email. I want to send test results once completed to the head of the research project at Liverpool University. I have seen some stuff from Sjoerd and Richard G (I think) on this list that suggested to me that I might be able to attach to an e-mail a password protected stack. Thus the satellite standalone would only administer assessments, and the 'master' standalone at the uni would aggregate and analyse results held within them. I am not too worried that an evil person with Metacard (do such exist?) might intercept and open the stack, because the data would not be directly associated with an individual, and would simply consist of arrays of numbers. It would make no sense without the 'master' standalone. I know there might be clever ways to do this better, but can I script a 'mailto' button in the satellite standalone to not only address and complete a subject field, but also attach a file or files (in this case results stack(s))? TIA David Glasgow PS I now have a full licence! I feel like a goldfish tipped out of a bowl into the sea. Ak. No. That doesn't work does it? A goldfish isn't marine. OK, you know that bit in Free Willy?
