[meteorite-list] You do not sell meteorites to this person

2002-01-30 Thread Matteo Chinellato

Hello all

I inform to you that if a sure person of name Davide
Castles - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - writes to you in order to
acquire a meteorite, well, you do not sell null,
inasmuch as not satisfied the goods that it acquires.
I am waiting for from 1 year the payment of a piece of
Nakhla and DaG 400, and I have not still seen a money.
Regards

Matteo

Re: [meteorite-list] Re:[meteorite-list]List failure

2002-01-30 Thread Space Rocks

That will be fine. I was pulling yer chain Mike. About not answering
questions. And about leaving because of all the gossip and lack of
meteorite information, only to come back the very next day talking about
the weather. :) ?Huh? Hope you have a nice Tuscon and hope y'all can
make nice and "just get along" for the show. We now return the list to
its regular space rock information (I hope, I hope).

I am confused here now, you asked me if I changed my mind. Obviously I
did,
I slept on it and am in a much better mood today.
Is this satisfactory or do I need to delve deeper than that.

Hello All,

Just heard some bad news that may mean I will be
unable to attend Tucson after all.  The person that was going to let me
stay in his room is probley not going to be able to attend the show.  And
as so I do not know if I will be able to make it.

If anyone on the list would like someone to help
share the lodging exspense of his room please let me know.  Perhaps
if one of the local dealers would let me crash on his floor I could
buy a nice meteorite from him?  Things are kinda up in the air at the
moment.

I will let the list know if I can figure something
out and please if anyone can helplet me know.

Hello Everyone,

If you are not going to the Tucson show...and even
if you are
you might want to check out this weeks
auctions.  I have
just listed 114 auctions and the big surprises will
be listed
tomorrowso you will need to check back. A lot
of them
will have "Buy it Now" ...good luck!  Some
really cool books
from my personal stash will be listed
tomorrow!!

PLEASE NOTE:  The Tolar, Pasamonte (b), and
Kermit 001
on ebay right now...ALL of those pieces are my
last.  Of course,
if someone does not by the big specimens
chances are that they will get chopped down...future sales.

Hi list,
I apologize to all who made inquiries for trading from my last E-mail.
Apparently, it is illegal to sell or trade fossils from Alberta thanks to a
law made by our dumb@$$ premier Ralph Klein. I did not realize this at the
time, I figured it would be the same as trading any other rocks. Once again
I apologize.

[meteorite-list] Meterotie Contest

2002-01-30 Thread Tettenborn

List,

Below is a message I sent to a friend about 5
months ago detailing an idea for a contest.  Would like to know if the list
is interested and if people would participate.  If there is some interest
is there anyone out there that would like to design and host the web
page?

Cheers,

Mike Tettenborn

Juris,I had a thought last night and want to pass it by
you.How about organizing a contest for guessing the place of the next
official meteorite fall.People could e-mail in a vote of the nearest
town or land mark and these could be posted on a web site which includes the
person's name.  All entrants must pledge a meteorite slice or fragment (say
worth ~$10 or so) and those meteorites will go into a pool.  Dealers may
want to pledge a little more.  When a fall happens then the person with the
closest town or land mark (could be thousands of mile away) gets all the
meteorites.  We could have an impartial judge or panel decide who
won.  We would also need some guide line as to what constitutes a
fall.  Say at least 1 kg. and many witnesses.  Other rules would have
to be carefully thought out.  Tagish Lake and Bilanga and Ourique would all
qualify.
As well, the people who pledged the
meteorites would be asked to mail their specimens to the winner. The web
site could even post pictures of the pledge meteorites. This contest
could go on for a year or two and be lots of fun if many people signed
up.What do you think?tett

[meteorite-list] Weather and Meteorties ramblings

2002-01-30 Thread Tettenborn

I thought Canadians exaggerated about the
weather.  Wow 175 F!  Bernd, how can it be so warm in the Oden
Wald?

Up here it is about -10 C with no snow.  A
very weird snowless winter (except for about 5 feet around the holidays).
Ski operators are crying the blues.

Meteorite related.  Hum  Got my
gorgeous 3 gram slice of NWA-852 CR2 and just sent another 2 gram slice to a
good friend in Colorado.  I am one of those that are really glad
that the price is so low.  Have been dreaming about getting some CR2
for years.

Also glad that some calm has prevailed over the
list and hope that we have seen an end to these rude and disrespectful
posts.

Tucson report:

mid-morning, 36 out, TV still says heavy snow warning for the Valley
(meaning 4" estimate is heavy for us!) today and into evening. Will have
to wait and see if they are correct, not much happening yet although the
clouds are hanging low.

Will be in twenties tonight, but then again Friday it will be sunny and 65
so this will be an interesting interlude, and the desert is beautiful when

Hi Mark,

In reality meteorites do talk. You just have to know how to ask the questions and
extract the information. Without researchers doing this we wouldn't know that some of
our pet meteorites are from Mars, Vesta, the Moon or Hebe. Heck they even tell us
their age and solar system history.

[meteorite-list] Weather, weather, weather

2002-01-30 Thread Bernd Pauli HD

Dave: It is –9°F (= -22°C) this morning on the high desert.
Jim: You know the one about a snowball's chance in hell, well I am in
Perris, California near March AFB & it is snowing.
Dave: Well, it's 16°F (= -12°C) below in Truckee, Calif and probably 1 %
R(elative)H(umidity) inside my house.
Jim: We did it 33°F (+01°C) as I type.
Brad: It's about 65 (= +18°) right now (Kentucky).
Bernd: Here in Southern Germany, it was about 69°F (= +21°C) in the
early afternoon.

Whether the weather is hot,
Or whether the weather is not,
We must weather the weather,
Whether we like it or
Whether we like it ... NOT :-)

[meteorite-list] Meteorite Pet Rock Service - Humor

2002-01-30 Thread Mark Bostick

Hello Everyone,

Since it is getting close of Tucson I have decided
to start releasing the latest thing in meteorites.  Promising to be more
popular then lunar or martian meteorites..

METEORITE PET ROCKS!

Yes that's right you remember the pet rock craze of
the 80's.  People would go on talk shows and claim that their pet rock
talks to them.  Have you ever wanted to talk to a meteorite and get its
orgin first hand?  Here your chance.  I promise these meteorite pet
rocks can do everything a regular pet ock can plus more.  See your Pet
meteorite rock hold a magnet WITHOUT HANDS!   How does he do it?
We will never know unless we ask him.

How much do they exspect to pay for something so
close of the cutting room's floor? $299.99?  $199.99? $99.99?  No for
a limited time you can have one for $79.99.  Supplies are limited...but
wait theirs more

Each Meteorite Pet Rock will come with a lifetime
of food supply and eyes that seem to watch you no matter where you are in the
room.  Its amazing?

This product was test marketed in several major
cities street corners and here is a sample of our positive
responces...

"What's a meteorite?"
"A Pet What?"
"You want how much for that little
rock?"
"Hey, get out of the road"

This last craze...simular to the hoola hoop...will
be as popular as the New Coke.  Pick up that phone...operators are standing
by.  Please have your credit card handy.

Call 1-800-PET-METOR

Note: For an extra change we can paint your Martian
rocks green and glue eyes to them.

[meteorite-list] good day for meteorite hunting

2002-01-30 Thread webbth

Hello list members,
You western USA guys need to come east today and hunt the strewn woods of
Western North Carolina. It's a beautiful, blue sky, sunshiny day here
with a present temperature of 64F and expected to hit 70f. The ski resort
people here are hurting but I think it will be back to normal next week.
I think I will go out and poke around with the metal detector and magnet
cane-might find another piece of Linville!
My best to all and happy meteorite trading to everyone attending the
Tucson show this year.
Thomas H. Webb

Re: [meteorite-list] California

2002-01-30 Thread David Freeman

Dear Dave, Ron, Jim, and Listees;
It is -9 this morning on the high desert. This may help the reentry of
the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer to cool faster. We better be sure to
let the public know to put all of the dogs, sheep, and goats indoors for
the night tonight, we wouldn't want another "Nakhla Dog"
episode...or...would we?
Problem here is that if no one saw it fall, it would just be dismissed
as more junk in the yard by many.
Best chill,
Dave Freeman

[meteorite-list] Ebay Auctions

2002-01-30 Thread Matteo Chinellato

Hello all

Mine first auctions are ended and have noticed with
appeal to that all the slices of SaU 008 that I had
put have gone sold, even if the price is of $500 or
$400 to the gram, but SaU 008 has one several matrix
the much freshest one of DaG 476, 489 etc., the same
for Farmington slice and NWA slices. Today I have put
others auctions
http:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/
look the very Museum Quality SaU 008 gr.16.8 slice, is
very nice, and is for only $350/gr.
Regards

Matteo

Re: [meteorite-list] List Policies

2002-01-30 Thread dean bessey

I would like to apologize to list members for my part in this senseless
round of mud slinging. Yes even you farmer. Nobody should get exposed to
this crap. Everybody has a right to be in the desert so everybody should
live with it. Nobody is going to get the desert all to themselves. This will
be my last email on this topic no matter what farmer or anybody else tries
to bring up or says. I have better things to do. Many dealers do slimy
things in Morocco. Some feel that my own efforts at selling meteorites that
we only know came from somewhere in the Sahara or Arabian deserts and fall
under the catagory of "NWAs" is slimy. To each his own.
Before I sign off this topic though I would like to point out that I never
started this. I went to Morocco, took some photos and related the story
about the CR2 strewnfield and other meteorites as I found it. I beleive my
information to be accurate and unless I get more information I will still
beleive that my details are true. All of the locals knew that I was there
and I was the only one there buying meteorites at the time that I was in
morocco. It would be inconsievable that some local would not try to sell me
their meteorites last week. The strewnfield is rocky as somebody mentioned
but the CR2 is quite distinguishable from the other rocks and with such a
sheer number of people searching I cant imagine more being found in that
strewnfield (In any great numbers anyway). Especially with metal detectors
being extensively used. I guess that I could be wrong and if farmer or
anybody else has information to refute this I would love to be the first to
know.
But I then sold my CR2 at a price that I thought gives the nomads, locals,
my partners, and myself a fair profit while at the same time providing my
customers with a killer deal on a rare meteorite. Farmer didnt like the low
priice that I was selling it at and then made vicious and unprovoked attacks
against me. How could I not respond? I had to even though I wish that people
wouldent carry on with this stupid mudslinging.
But I wont respond anymore. I am not proud of my part in this round of
emails and wont partake anymore.
So Farmer, lets kiss and make up? We can drink margaratas (con fresa) in
Tucson to sooth over the egos.
I dont want to play anymore. I am going to drink a beer and go to bed.
Cheers
DEAN
