[meteorite-list] meteorite link!

2002-08-31 Thread James_TOM Knudson

Hello list, I posted a link earlier about a rock some nut thought was a meteorite from space complete with life forms. I found out the list has all seen this! Now I am getting mail saying not to believe it. I do not!!!    I just thought it was good for a laugh!

Thanks, Tom

It's the Frass again.

Yep.  Many list-members, myself included, danced a long, complicated email-waltz with this guy (actually, his daughter, if I remember correctly) several years ago.    He found a ral, jen-u-wine Mars meteorite with a cute li'l Martian spider in it (appropriately if unimaginatively named "Spidey") and he was also selling "actual silverware" from the house near where this "meteorite" was found.  $75 per fork, I think.  He's actually very sincere, in the sense that he really does believe his own hype.   He's convinced that the reason his "find" hasn't gained scientific and public acceptance is due to a "vast, scientist-wide conspiracy", rather than the possibility that he might just have a rock and a dead bug.

Tom,

The pictures are certainly not convincing on website. Looks
like a "pipe dream". But it looks like others are
saying the same thing, by the intro on a couple webpages. I only know about
what kind of meteorites that have been determined to date. This does not look
like any of them. If it is real, it will be recognized in time. Thanx
for curious information.

2002-08-31 Thread Alexander Seidel

Bernd Pauli, via the email account of his wife, has asked me for the
favour to let the list, and people who may wait for personal messages,
know that his mail server is and will be down until at least next Monday
or may be even later, so that he cannot communicate any messages at the
moment.

2002-08-31 Thread Lars Pedersen

Hi again all

I have made some changes, to the database I
mentioned earlier.
It now looks like this:

NameClass  (Stone/Iron/Stony
Iron)Chemical group ( H/L/LL...)Petrologic type (1-6)weight
(gram/kg)Total known weight  (gram/kg)Location (Country og
co-ordinates)Date of discovery Find(FI) or Fall(FA)  Price

Larger fields:

DescribtionHistoryPicture

Anyone have any comments ?

Still if the result ends up good, I will distribute
it for a few dollars - in case anyone needs such a programe.

Re: [meteorite-list] The US Meteorite Stamp

2002-08-31 Thread drtanuki

Dear List members:
While we are at it, why not also a Canadian meteorite crater series,
Australian Impact crater series, Germany?, and France? in those
respective countries? Dirk Ross...Tokyo
These would not only be beautiful, but would also promote our interests.

[meteorite-list] Tektite and Impacts

2002-08-31 Thread drtanuki

Dear All,
I am interested in forming an informal discussion group of those
members that have an interest in tektites and impacts. This would
reduce the number of posts on meteorite list central  related to such;
and members could send and receive information related to such topics
without impacting the numbers of delete button email. Those members
interested please contact me if you are interested in such a list.
Sincerely, Dirk Ross..Tokyo

If other members have input on this proposal feel free to comment. Thank
you.

[meteorite-list] Thanks Rob

2002-08-31 Thread Shaun Daniel

This is Shaun again.
{meteormagic}    I thank you for your response.  It does
help to have more than one mind on the subject.   A good friend of
mine also suggested the "rocks from space".  I do belive that will be my
next purchase.  It is true that some people are
beyond convincing.  But, that does not mean I will not try!
Again, thanks Rob.    And to all the list..Have
a great Holiday weekend  Regards,
Shaun

[meteorite-list] Major Problems

2002-08-31 Thread Michael Blood

Hi all,
Just a quick note to let EVERYONE know I am NOT receiving ANY email
right now. My system crashed entirely & this is on
my old system that can send but not receive.
To top that off, my house got flooded with a water line running all
night long- you wouldn't believe the chaos. and devistation.
Bummer, man.
If anyone has sent more stuff for the auction or orders or
other communications, that is why you have not heard back.
Of course, my computer tech is out of town...! (but, hopefully, back
tomorrow)
Best wishes, Michael

Hi Lars,

How about... Fall / Find---and Locale i.e. the specific State / Country /
Province (the name doesn't always indicate a pinpoint, exact location---or a
location no one recognizes)

Best of Luck!
