Re: [meteorite-list] Tafassasset
I have a small slice of this meteorite in my collection. It has to be one of the weirdest meteorites I have yet looked at, and I suspect it may require a classification all its own. It is so remelted, recrystallized and deformed I find it hard to believe it may be related to the CR type, yet I still can find a couple of relict chondrules in my piece. [meteorite-list] Tafassasset
Hello, Last night I posted this, but I don't think it made it through, so here it is again. (And if it did get posted, I am sorry I repeat myself). __ Hello Members, Only a few weeks ago, some of you asked if the controversy around Tafassasset had been resolved. I was reading the latest "Meteorite" and in the NEWS article "Annual Meteoritical Society Meeting", I found the following statement: "The unusual Niger meteorite Tafassasset was discussed by Jutta Zipfel, who suggested it is surely related to the CR chondrites, but has been severely metamorphosed and partly melted". Does that help answer the question? Anne Black IMCA #2356 www.IMPACTIKA.com e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [meteorite-list] Tucson Auction
Hi All, Just to let everyone know, there will be a display of the featured specimens for my Feb. 8 auction in the week proceeding the auction in Room 316 at Inn Suites. This is the room the Labenne's occupied the last few years, and this year will be occupied by Eric Olson, Mike Farmer & Jim Strope. So, you can kill two birds with one stone and drop by to see the special specimens that will be in my auction and see what Eric and Mike are offering this year at the show. More details will follow, later, Michael Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. -- Worth Seeing: - Earth at night from satelite: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0011/earthlights_dmsp_big.jpg - Interactive Lady Liberty: http://doody36.home.attbi.com/liberty.htm - Earth - variety of choices: http://www.fourmilab.ch/earthview/vplanet.html -- Michael Blood Meteorites & Didgeridoos for sale at: http://www.michaelbloodmeteorites.com/ __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
Re: [meteorite-list] Interesting breccias
My guess for the first one is an L5/6 breccia with carbon inclusions. W=1 S=2 As for the second, also an L breccia. L3/6 W=1 S=2. This one is gorgeous! Cheers, Mike Tettenborn Owen Sound, Ontario P.S. Viewing these unclassified meteorites and guessing their classifications is a blast. Hope others follow Matt's lead. - Original Message - From: "Matt Morgan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Meteorite-List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, November 15, 2002 12:59 AM Subject: [meteorite-list] Interesting breccias > Thought some of you who enjoy brecciated meteorites, may like these > guys...any guesses as to their petrologic types? > http://www.mhmeteorites.com/images/nwa_breccia.jpg > http://www.mhmeteorites.com/images/nwa_breccia2.jpg > === > Matt Morgan > Mile High Meteorites > http://www.mhmeteorites.com > PO Box 151293 > Lakewood, CO 80215 USA > FAX: 303-763-6917 > > > __ > Meteorite-list mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list > __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
Re: [meteorite-list] Interesting breccias
Matt, LL3.5, and L5 or LL5 (would say 6 but I see a number of nice chondrules in it too). Very nice material.
