RE: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Photos
Thank you Hanno for sharing these wonderful photos from Berlin's Humbold University! I had no idea there are so many meteorites found in Germany and Mitteleuropa (posters)! Braunau looks amazing and so does Hohenlangenberg. What fusion crust! It looks like it could be another Ibbenbüren. And Nentmannsdorf, beautiful, but the third photo on page 8, I can make it out. It must be an iron with a lot of reflection of a light? Re: [meteorite-list] clarafication on my meteorite sale and othermatters
Steve, List and Al, I have to agree with Al on this one. Over the past several years, those who have dealt with the meteorite community in a negative way and have been less than honest have been taken to task on the Meteorite List. Steve shouldn't be an exception. I know there are a bunch of folks out there(myself included) who have encouraged Steve to produces better descriptions, add pictures and correct weights to his sales (Ebay and others) and deal honestly with the people he does business with. While some of the problems do get corrected, it seems that they creep back after a while. I'm sorry to say that I think the true character of anyone, including Steve, can be determined by their behavior better than it can be by their words. What's it going to be, Steve? [meteorite-list] Mysterious Flash Of Light Reported in Detroit Sky
http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/3774616/detail.html Drivers Report Mysterious Flash Of Light In Sky Radio Show Host Receives Dozens Of Calls Click On Detroit September 30, 2004 A local radio station's phone lines lit up Thursday morning after motorists reported seeing a mysterious flash of light in the sky, Local 4 reported. Several drivers in the area of Interstate 275 and Interstate 94 called into WOMC radio at about 5:45 a.m. to report an unidentified light flashing in the sky. "It was a bright flash, almost like a huge flashlight, almost like a generator going off," said one caller. The host of the radio station's morning show, Dick Purtan, said he had no answer to what people had witnessed in the sky. "The first thing that I thought of was that this was possibly the asteroid, this big rock that's about 3 miles long and a mile-and-a-half wide that actually came within a million miles of earth this morning, but the trouble is they say that it's not visible," Purtan said. Officials at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base reported no flying this morning, so there were no records or photographs taken that may have identified the flash of light. Metro airport also had no trace of the light flash because the airport's radar readings only cover a 40-mile radius, Local 4 reported. The National Weather Service in Cleveland told Local 4 that the mysterious light may have been moonbeams poking through the clouds. Local 4 attempted to contact the North American Aerospace Defense Command, which protects the airspace over the United States and Canada. NORAD had yet to return calls concerning the mysterious light. __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Hope it works this time. Hi List Thought some of you might be interested in an article in The Geochemical News July 2004 issue about an experiment that was aboard the ill-fated Columbia shuttle. The article is titled; An Investigation, Interrupted: Panspermia, ALH84001, and the Columbia Shuttle Disaster by Landau, Yuval E. pp 15-17. Interesting reading about the results of the experiment that was recovered in the wreckage. Also for those total science geeks it also has a very interesting article on the ten most notable geochemists of the 20th century. http://gs.wustl.edu/archives/gn/gn120.pdf Enjoy. Re: [meteorite-list] Help needed (from Mike Jensen)
Mike Jensen wrote: My posts don't seem to make it to the list for some reason. If you don't see it posted could you please post it for me. Hi Peter That depends on what you mean by official. At the time of the publication of the book Jan 04 no meteorites had been published by the Meteoritical Society as IIG. Additionally no technical papers have been published that make an argument for this new grouplet. That is why I have not included it in the latest edition of the book. Finally in Aug 2004 MB 88 was published with Guanco as the first IIG classified meteorite. As you might have noticed the listing in the book as an HEX-Og was in error. It should a HEX-Ogg or coarsest octahedrite. Hopefully a paper will be published before the next edition so it can be listed as a IIG. Hope that helps. Hello Peter, hi again List, Just go to David Weir's website (Tombigbee River and Guanaco) and your confusion will dissipate like early morning mist in the warm sunshine of an Indian Summer morning sun :-) My 26.5-gram Guanaco slice (purchased from Rodrigo Martinez) looks almost like Twannberg with its large, massive schreibersite inclusion and its Neumann lines. There is an interesting, oval, almost chondrule- like FeNi inclusion inside the schreibersite area. Beautiful!
