Mr. Casper,

This is the in best information and discription, I can provide regarding
the stolen meteorite.

Meteorite taken from private residence on Jay Rumsey Rd., T/Van Etten,
between last week of July 2007, and first week of August 2007.

Possible suspect, may be a son who lives in Long Island.

Meteorite was in back yard of residence, and was used as a bird bath.

Meteorite was approximately 20inches long, by 10 inches wide, by 12 inches
high. Had curved indentation (use as bird bath), which was about 0.5 to
1inch deep on one side, and sloped to about 1- 1.5 inches deep. Meteorite
had an oval shape, and was reddish brown in color. Compl. states that
Cornell University verified it was a meteorite back in the early 1970's.

Thanks for your help,

Oky. So the guy has a verified real large meteorite, but continued to use
the valuable item for a fracking BIRDBATH, and maybe his son stole it.

Two bets here: the birdbath ain't a meteorite, and the complainant is mentally
ill.

If he IS using a real meteorite as a bird bath, I hope he never gets it back.

Well, technically, I'd say,
as long as the 2-fall-hypothesis isn't established, and it doesn't happen
that often, that within short time in the same place two meteorite falls,
we have to count all pieces found there to Chiang Khan.

 Hi Dave all,
 Regarding your post below
My information regarding TKW of the Chiang-Khan fall is from
The primary finder and author of the web page cited by Martin Altmann:

Of particular interest is the comment therein:

Nobody was able anymore to give precise indications as to the exact
date
of the event. Some 20 years ago it was, so they say, in the month of
November, without doubt - that's what I was told in the villages of the
 strewn field.
Whatever it was that happened then - one is led to presume a second
meteorite fall on the same day or on the day after. According to recent
research (isotope analysis), the two large specimens, which are in
private
Collection and in Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, do not originate
from
the Chiang-Khan fall. They are believed to have been transported into
Thailand from Laos. Two small pieces from Thailand were analyzed, one is
H4
tending to H5; one was determined to be H5 in Japan, whereas the large
pieces are H6. Most of all, the noble gas contents of the large specimens
differ extremely from those of the Chiang-Khan pieces!

Please note that this is also weighted by the comments by Jeff

[meteorite-list] Tunguska solved, dilithium found.

2008-03-24 Thread Darren Garrison

Aliens downed Tunguska meteorite to protect our planet from devastation, stated
Russian scientist Yuriy Lavbin. He showed 10 quartz crystals that he found at
the place of the meteorite’s crash. Several of the crystals have holes in
between, so they can be united in a chain.

What could this chain serve for? Besides, some crystals have strange drawings on
them. We don’t have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on
crystal. We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere but in
the space”, - the scientist states.

The meteorite’s crash took place long time ago, in summer of 1908. An enormous
volcanic ball rushed over the sky with terrifying wallop and thunder-like sound.
All the citizens were frightened to death and scared to move out of their
houses. A flight of a “flamy alien” ended up in an hour in deserted taiga area.
In a matter of seconds an explosive wave spread for 40 kilometers, devastating
everything living around.

It was not until many years later that a Siberian scientist set up an expedition
to place of the meteorite’s crash. They searched carefully through the river
banks and found there unusual quartz boards. Mr. Lavbin states that such solid
stones do not exist in the Earth. He said about the experiment that was taken on
the crystals: scientists tried to put some of the same drawing that were on the
stones initially with a laser machine.

How surprised they were to realize that the laser (that usually cuts metal
objects into pieces) managed to put just some faint stripes. The stones though
have an entire system of different lines and circles on them. Scientists suppose
that the stones used to be a part of the navigational system of a spaceship. All
stones united form a map, which they used to cruise through the Universe.

In 1908 the UFO is thought to be hit by the meteorite that weighed 1 billion
tones. If the meteorite fell down on the Earth, all the people would have been
dead. But the aliens interfered and put their lives to save our land. A strange
portrait of a strange person on one of the stones proves this hypothesis. Isn’t
it the pilot that once put his life for the sake of our future life?

[meteorite-list] Shocked Quartz Found at Upheaval Dome, Utah

2008-03-24 Thread Paul
Buchner, E., and T. Kenkmann, 2008, Upheaval Dome, Utah, USA:
Impact origin confirmed. Geology. vol.36, no. 3, pp. 227-230.

In part, this abstract stated:

“In this study, we document, for the first time, shocked
quartz grains from this crater in sandstones of the
Jurassic Kayenta Formation. The investigated grains
contain multiple sets of decorated planar deformation
features. ... The shocked quartz grains were found in
the periphery of the central uplift in the northeastern
sector of the crater, which most likely represents the
cross range crater sector.”

 Hi Dave all,
 Regarding your post below
My information regarding TKW of the Chiang-Khan fall is from
The primary finder and author of the web page cited by Martin Altmann:

 http://www.meteorite-oliver.com/About_Chiang_Khan/about_chiang_khan.html

Hello Listoids,

I have a fairly simple project in mind that requires
the precision cutting and polishing of three

about 4mm. Length of the long one would be about
3cm and the two shorter ones would be 1cm each.

Anyone with the skill and tools to do this please
email me offlist. Put the word 'meteorite' in the
topic to trigger my email color filters.

Dear List Members,

Please have a look at the below listed slices of
Northwest Africa 5000. These represent the smallest
rated slices we have in inventory and come with
individualized portfolios. All of the largest pieces
are now on hold pending institutional and corporate
negotiations. I am offering all of these at a 25%
discount below the listed appraised value. We would
like to see some of this fantastic lunar meteorite end
up in private collections so will also entertain
reasonable offers.

I was unaware until recently that this luniate is the
only gabbro from the lunar highlands ever found
including those brought back on Apollo and Luna
missions putting it into a class of its own. The more
reports I get back from laboratories, the more
impressive this gorgeous meteorite becomes and
interest is now intense.

Re: [meteorite-list] Is this really Park Forrest on ebay? Legit?

2008-03-24 Thread Bob Evans

Oh its legit alright.
However you will have to bid over $6 K to have a chance getting it.
Mike Farmer and I had the displeasure of meeting this guy on Winslow St.
Thanks to this guy Mike had to shell out an extra $1000 ? to make a purchase
from Kaskos just like he says in the auction description. Mike and I were
buying a few hundred grams and then this guy came along and started a
bidding war right on the guys porch.

The reason I say it will be over $6 K is that the last two times he had it
on ebay he had a friend bid on the side to keep the price where he wanted
it. He wasn't exactly shy about it.
So if you see it sell for under 6 thousand he will keep it and put it back
up for auction at a later date.

Good luck !

[meteorite-list] AD - Sales Page Updated - New Pieces

2008-03-24 Thread Mike Bandli
Hello List,

http://astro-artifacts.com/Astroartifacts/Met_4_Sale_Template.html

I just updated and added many new individual specimens to my page. They
include Montferre (France), Barratta (Australia), Bruderheim (Canada), the
very rare Shalka Diogenite (India), Esquel, Girgenti (Sicily, Italy),
Murchison, and some OOP Antarctic Meteorite Postcards. If time permits,
please take a gander. Don't forget to hit the refresh button to make sure
you are looking at current inventory.

I'm am trying to avoid selling on eBay as much as possible and bring back
the good old sales page format. In the last few months I have been the
victim of eBay's Paypal scam, multiple non-paying bidders, and now sellers
won't be able to leave feedback for buyers...

Thank you!

Mike Bandli

Re: [meteorite-list] Is this really Park Forrest on ebay? Legit?

2008-03-24 Thread Bob Evans

Mike,
You werent the only one accused of scamming. I saw the Kascos on Winslow St.
about 6 months ago and she was pissed with me because when I bought some
pieces from her when it first fell I was paying her $1 and $2 per gram.
At that point nobody had any idea how much there was or how valuable PF
could become.
The kick in the butt was that my significant other was upset with me paying
$1/ gram. Well thats her regret. I should have bought every gram that I
could.

You know what is hilarious, that guy got into a fight
with me and the owner of the Winslow St. specimen. He
kept bidding against me (no problem, that is what
America is about) but his argument was that I was an
evil dealer who was going to sell it and make money
while he wanted to keep a piece for his kids and for
saving history. He kept telling the homeowner that I
was scamming them, which was funny since I kept
bidding higher than him, so I am not sure what that
logic was supposed to prove. Obviously he wants to
make money now. So who is the evil dealer?
These people are such hypocrites.

Oh its legit alright.
However you will have to bid over $6 K to have a
chance getting it.
Mike Farmer and I had the displeasure of meeting
this guy on Winslow St.
Thanks to this guy Mike had to shell out an extra
$1000 ? to make a purchase
from Kaskos just like he says in the auction
description. Mike and I were
buying a few hundred grams and then this guy came
along and started a
bidding war right on the guys porch.

The reason I say it will be over $6 K is that the
last two times he had it
on ebay he had a friend bid on the side to keep the
price where he wanted
it. He wasn't exactly shy about it.
So if you see it sell for under 6 thousand he will
keep it and put it back
up for auction at a later date.

Good luck !

[meteorite-list] cleaning Gaos

2008-03-24 Thread tett

Hello List,

Looking for help in cleaning little Gaos. I have one which has been in my
collection for over 10 years and it is as black and fresh as any pristine
meteorite I have seen. I also have some Gaos which are also very nice but
rusty lookng.

I cleaned one with acid and a light scrub. This turned the stone chaulky
white. Some olive oil helped to turn it black but still not as nice as my
1st beauty.

Does anyone have a secret recipe they are willing to share on how to clean
Gaos? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

tett

[meteorite-list] AD: ISO Lawrencite Cleanup

2008-03-24 Thread Mr EMan
This is an AD-- sort of-- but I am looking for a service, someone with
experience and time to try to save my pallasite and iron specimens from
Lawrencite Infestation.

When I was upended and rolled over in the August accident (Re; New
Strewn Filed in PA) my various collections were jumbled, many were
specimens along with collection labels were lost or ruined. The box
with the irons was under water for a brief time and went un-noticed for
several months in storage. These were largely rust prone specimens
anyway. But I had a rim recovered Canyon Diablo with diamond that I
hope to salvage.

If anyone on the list is willing to consider restoration/retreating
these, please contact me off list to discuss particulars and fees. Or
on list if you offer advice.

This would be 8-10 irons and 5-6 chondrites US Quarter to Half-dollar
sized. BTW The Natans were completely shale when found but the
Sikhote-Alins hardly so any sign of exposure.

Re: [meteorite-list] LOL

2008-03-24 Thread Pete Shugar
It has been said that laughfter is the best medicine, but this was closer to
a poison than a medicine. I just about died laughing. My wife has asked me 5
times since 6pm (when I read the post) what in blue blazes was so funny. I
had to tell her that it was an inside joke, but every time I did I'd break
out in new peals of glee. This was just simply PRICELESS.

Heres one worth reading through the description. The meteorite was still
hot the day after it fell.
I guess if they cant even spell meteorite then thats a sign they sure dont
know what one is. Thanks to the fact that the cattle need to be fed this
gem becomes available to you.
